This work asks a simple but difficult question: how can we stop war, learning from the mistakes of World War II?
Based on the story of my grandfather, a survivor of the Kamikaze units, Letters from Chiran has been performed across Europe since 2024. I was given the opportunity to share this work in Rijeka, Croatia.
Rijeka is a city marked by complex and painful histories—World War II, the Cold War, and periods of dictatorship. Beneath its beautiful harbor lies a past that is far more brutal than its scenery suggests. Even today, many people living there experienced the civil war of the 1990s.
To share this work in such a place—to reflect on the foolishness of war beyond time and borders, and on how war affects each individual life—was a profound honor.

Spanning different historical and contemporary periods—including the societal shifts of the year 1933, the devastation of war, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami (often simplified as “Fukushima”), and today’s society—Through a fusion of dance and theater, it asks a profound question: What is the meaning of the ordinary to all of us?
