See, last night… I went to @timeleft dinner number three for me, thought I’d try the mixed one this time… And I had mixed feelings about it.
I got on really well with a couple of people…
and I didn’t get on so well with a couple of others.
But tell you what: That makes it a successful TIMELEFT DINNER. I’m glad I went.
Because it was new.
It is… interesting to meet strangers.
It doesn’t need to be perfect.

Friendship is NOT about perfect connections.
It’s about Interesting connections.

See, we have WAY MORE in common with strangers than we think.

We’ve become obsessed with selecting and curating, diagnosing, analysing, and finding PERFECT. We’ve become deranged curators.
We have algorithms choosing our partners, yet we’re lonelier than ever.
We don’t indulge in disliking anything anymore.
We’re force-fed comfort.
We have social media coming out of our arses, but barely a crumb of actual social interaction.
Clearly - That doesn’t work. Because PERFECT doesn’t EXIST.

It’s like the cinema - you don’t go once and tick off ‘going to the cinema’ as an experience you’ve completed, done and dusted, on your life’s to-do list.
No, you go often for different films. It is the same framework, the same place, the same setting - but the film is different every time. Some you love. Some you endure. You don’t stop going to the cinema because of one bad movie. No. You keep showing up. See - Consistency is the key to connection.

“But it costs so much time and money to go meet new people. After work I’ve only got time for the gym and dinner.”

BORING.
See, Everything costs something. That routine you’ve fallen into is also costly.

I grew up inspired by a quote my Dad repeated relentlessly in my childhood: “Strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet.” [ad]

It’s the mindset that made him chat to my Mum on a plane to The Netherlands all those years ago.
