CIRCUS NETWORK - Urban Culture Space
Gallery, agency and shop from Porto, Portugal, focused on urban culture.
⏰ Tue-sat: 11am to 7pm
Sun-mon: closed

🎨 fala, artista! [english below]
🎉 Celebrar as pequenas vitórias
🗓️ 26/05 (terça-feira)
⏰ A partir das 17h30
📍 Circus Network (R. do Rosário, 54 - Porto)
⚠️ VAGAS LIMITADAS

🇬🇧 SUPER SECUESTRO
Solo exhibition by Mark Malarko
Opening Friday, May 29 at Circus Network
This new body of work by Mark Malarko began with a chance encounter. While working in Barcelona, the artist discovered a pile of discarded comics in a nearby abandoned factory. Drawn to their graphic intensity, rhythm, and colour, he began translating fragments of these images into painting.
Rather than direct reproductions, the works become abstractions — echoes of forms, gestures, and palettes carried over from the original material. Through this process, imagery shifts from print to paint, from narrative to surface. Working primarily with house paint on canvas, Malarko builds each painting through layering, editing, and physical response, allowing the source material to dissolve into something more open-ended.
“SUPER SECUESTRO” reflects on transformation and the persistence of images over time, reactivating fragments of local visual culture as a way of moving them forward.

𝗗𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹’𝘀 𝗬𝗮𝗹𝗹 - DROP 4
📅 May 9th, from 3PM
Today we presents another group of artists contributing to this evolving collective exhibition: transforming the $2 bill into a space for experimentation, personal reflection, and visual disruption. Join us today for the opening, from 3PM.
@x_cesarhugo_x
César Hugo is a multidisciplinary Portuguese artist and a recognized figure within Porto’s tattoo scene, currently focused on ceramic painting and tile-based work through Oficina Vidra.
His piece, ’Till death do us part, transforms the bill into an intimate symbol of attachment and permanence, balancing traditional references with contemporary visual language.
@nunoalecrim
Alecrim is a Lisbon-based visual artist whose practice moves between studio work, murals, and installation, shaped by a background in graphic design.
Through monochromatic compositions built from symbols, textures, and fragmented forms, his intervention Take your time invites a slower and more contemplative reading of value and image.
@james_tebbutt
James Tebbutt is a British painter whose practice centers on the physicality, unpredictability, and layering of paint.
His intervention embraces drips, splatters, texture, and spontaneous gesture — allowing process, accident, and composition to coexist directly on the surface of the note.
@marianarcaceres
Mariana Cáceres is a Lisbon-based visual artist and illustrator whose work moves between drawing, publishing, and contemporary visual culture.
Inspired by Article 65 and the right to housing, the piece reframes the banknote through a social and political lens — confronting systems of value against basic human rights.
@tayone.abz
Tayone is a visual artist from Vigo working across painting, publishing, muralism, graphic design, and self-produced editions.
Blending internet culture, graphic experimentation, and contemporary visual language, I keep it meme injects irony and digital-age immediacy into the surface of the currency.

His piece, ’Till death do us part, transforms the bill into an intimate symbol of attachment and permanence, balancing traditional references with contemporary visual language.
@nunoalecrim
@james_tebbutt
James Tebbutt is a British painter whose practice centers on the physicality, unpredictability, and layering of paint.
His intervention embraces drips, splatters, texture, and spontaneous gesture — allowing process, accident, and composition to coexist directly on the surface of the note.
@marianarcaceres
@tayone.abz
Tayone is a visual artist from Vigo working across painting, publishing, muralism, graphic design, and self-produced editions.
Blending internet culture, graphic experimentation, and contemporary visual language, I keep it meme injects irony and digital-age immediacy into the surface of the currency.

In two days we are unveiling another selection of artists contributing to this evolving collective exhibition, transforming the $2 bill into a site for experimentation, symbolism, and personal expression. Here are 5 more artists that are part of this drop and a sneak peak into their artworks:
@gavilanseis
Daniel Gavilán is an illustrator and urban artist whose work merges anthropomorphic characters, surreal narratives, and visual references rooted in his hometown of Pasto and Andean culture.
Inspired by Andean music imagery, his piece translates rhythm and folklore into a symbolic visual composition shaped by contemporary urban aesthetics.
@marialeonidov
Maria Leonidov is a multidisciplinary artist from Tallinn, Estonia, whose vibrant practice draws inspiration from nature, mystical creatures, and imagined worlds where fantasy meets reality.
Her intervention transforms the note into a psychedelic bloom of swirling flowers and vivid color — dissolving the boundary between dreamlike imagery and the natural world.
@marianamargaridamalhao
Mariana Malhão is a Portuguese illustrator and visual artist working across editorial illustration, mural painting, ceramics, and independent publishing.
Her piece, A matter of perspective, reflects her interest in perception and visual interpretation — subtly shifting the way the bill is observed and understood.
@projetoruido.pt
Ruído is a Portuguese collective formed by Draw and Alma, combining expressive figurative language with abstract, geometric, and textural interventions shaped by urban art practices.
In Paper Trails, the duo reflects on the darker structures surrounding money and power — layering fragmented imagery and symbolism around the idea that money remains “the root of all evil".
@sickfaces
Luis Silva, aka Sickfaces, is a Portuguese artist influenced by surf culture, music, sunlight, and the natural landscapes surrounding him.
His intervention channels vivid color and atmosphere into the currency, turning it into an emotional fragment shaped by memory, sound, and introspection.

This time, we’re diving into a topic that affects all of us:
🧠 Creativity vs. Survival Mode
(Emotional care, creative blocks, and how to make your artistic practice sustainable).
If you want to clear your mind, share real experiences, and connect with other creatives, this is the place for you.

🎨 fala, artista! [english below]
🗓️ 12/05 (terça-feira)
⏰ A partir das 17h30
📍 Circus Network (R. do Rosário, 54 - Porto)
⚠️ VAGAS LIMITADAS

[eng] 🎨 speak up, artist!
After an amazing first meetup, our sharing space is back. It’s time for our second gathering at @circusnetwork!
Creating can often be a lonely journey. That’s why this space was born: to be an intimate circle where we share what goes on behind the scenes of making art (the struggles, the blocks, and everything only creators truly understand).
This time, we’re diving into a topic that affects all of us:
🧠 Creativity vs. Survival Mode
(Emotional care, creative blocks, and how to make your artistic practice sustainable).
If you want to clear your mind, share real experiences, and connect with other creatives, this is the place for you.

📅 May 9th, from 3PM
Next Saturday, Circus Network presents a new group of artists contributing to this ongoing collective project: each transforming a $2 bill into a unique artwork. As the project unfolds, it builds towards a larger collective statement shaped by diverse practices and perspectives. These are today's artists:
@mr_kenjichai
Kenji Chai is a street artist who developed a distinctive visual language through his alter ego characters and graffiti roots.
His intervention reframes the dollar bill through a cultural lens — where food becomes the true currency, shifting value from money to everyday experience.
@cig.thief
Gabriel Hollington, aka Cig Thief, is a London-based illustrator, designer, and tattoo artist influenced by skate culture and street art.
Using Posca pen directly on the bill, his piece embraces immediacy and instinct, treating the note as a surface for raw, unfiltered expression.
@grafflex
GRAFFLEX reinterprets objects and symbols through bold lines and vibrant color, bridging graffiti, pop culture, and contemporary design.
In BOLD, the $2 bill becomes a charged visual field — where rigid monetary symbolism is disrupted by dynamic, high-energy intervention.
@itoyo69
ITOYO is a Japanese tattoo artist known for character-driven, neo-traditional designs rooted in pop culture and playful distortion.
Their piece injects humor and personality into the currency, transforming it into a quirky, character-led moment that disrupts its seriousness.
@tinasiuda
Tina Siuda is a Polish-born illustrator based in Porto, working across printmaking and risograph through her studio Not So Fast Press.
Her piece channels a visceral political response, using the bill as a surface to express tension, rejection, and critique of contemporary power structures.

On May 9th, Circus Network presents a new group of artists contributing to this ongoing collective project, each transforming a $2 bill into a unique artwork. With every drop, the exhibition moves closer to its final form: a body of 200 individual pieces reflecting distinct visual languages, practices, and perspectives. These are some of the artists exhibiting next weekend.
@anaseixassantos
Ana Seixas is a Portuguese illustrator and ceramic artist known for her vibrant colors, bold shapes, and playful storytelling.
For this piece, she transforms the $2 bill into a lighthearted escape — painting two brightly colored cats and reframing the currency as something soft, absurd, and comforting.
@darrenjohn
Darren John is a London-based artist working across public art, interiors, and studio practice, exploring how everyday surfaces can be reimagined.
His intervention layers color and form directly onto the note, allowing the original bill and a new composition to coexist while inviting viewers to look beyond what feels fixed and familiar.
@manonlouart
Manon Louart is a French illustrator and motion designer whose work blends nature, dark fantasy, and nostalgic textures.
Her piece imagines the banknote as a fragile artifact from the future — something no longer functional, but preserved, observed, and recontextualized.
@milestakes
Miles Takes is a UK-based visual artist whose work explores the relationship between colour, geometry, and the natural world through precise abstraction.
His intervention introduces flowing, green-toned concentric curves into the currency, reflecting on the intersection between personal identity and systems of assigned value.
@trulydesigncrew
Truly Design is an Italian collective rooted in graffiti and geometric abstraction, translating ideas through layered forms and spatial experimentation.
Approaching the dollar bill as an icon to subvert, they combine collage and airbrush techniques to disrupt its symbolism and reconstruct it through their visual language.
