Atauro Island in Timor-Leste doesn't have signposted hiking trails — it has people. Every morning, the locals we stayed with helped us find someone who knew the next stretch of path — through forests, along cliffs, across fields and down to beaches.

And then there's the north coast. Remote, raw and absolutely breathtaking. Atauro is home to the greatest diversity of reef fish and coral species anywhere in the world, and the underwater world did not disappoint.

The hospitality of the people here is something else entirely. A year before our trip, a runner named Morgan Segui fell 40 metres down a cliff on Mount Manucoco, spent three days trapped on the jungle floor with broken bones — and it was locals who eventually found him and brought him to safety. True story!

Rai Hawu ist der lokale Name für die kleine indonesische Insel Sawu. Das Leben der indigenen Bevölkerung ist sehr einfach, aber nicht simpel. Der Alltag dreht sich um Animismus und die Lontar Palme, die auch Baum des Lebens genannt wird. Man begegnet ihr in Gebäuden, Werkzeugen, Körben und im Essen. Männer klettern auf diese Palmen, um den Saft zu ernten. Die Frauen kochen diesen zu Hause zu einer dickflüssigen Zuckermasse. Pascal (@dushutter) und Fabiana (@fableyouth ) haben Hawu Penu und seine Frau Teni Mata besucht und diesen intimen Film gedreht: „Danke für diesen Einblick in euer Leben!“

Gedreht wurde alles in 5 Stunden. Mit der GFX 100SII, dem 32-64mm Zoom, ND Filter, Action Cam, Handymikrofon und einer Stirnlampe. Dank dem IBIS auch ganz ohne Stativ.

Rai Hawu est le nom local de la petite île indonésienne de Sawu. La vie de la population indigène y est très simple, mais pas simpliste. Le quotidien est marqué par l’animisme et le palmier Lontar, également appelé arbre de vie. On le retrouve dans les constructions, les outils, les paniers et la nourriture. Les hommes grimpent sur ces palmiers pour en récolter la sève, que les femmes transforment ensuite à la maison en une masse sucrée épaisse. Pascal (@dushutter) et Fabiana (@fableyouth ) ont rendu visite à Hawu Penu et à son épouse Teni Mata et ont réalisé ce film intime : « Merci pour ce regard sur votre vie ! »

Tout a été tourné en 5 heures avec le GFX100S II, le zoom 32–64mm, un filtre ND, une action cam, un micro de téléphone et une lampe frontale. Grâce à l’IBIS, le tournage a pu se faire sans trépied.
