New York City

The city of day and night.
The city surrounded by oceans and sweat,
hopes and fears,
dreams and nightmares.

I spent six years in New York,
and somehow this city always reminded me of Lagos.

My stories here are written on walls of bricks and bridges —
in thick, foggy mornings,
in freezing grazing snow,
in hot summer weather,
and in sleepless nights in Times Square.

The cameras.
The lights.
The action.

Sometimes I walked the runway as a model.
Sometimes I sat in film school as a creative.
But most times,
I was simply that young man from Lagos, Nigeria 🇳🇬
navigating the altitudes and attitudes of life.

Whether I gain it all
or lose it all,
my feet,
my fears,
and my fiery determination
were built in the New York Cityscape.

Among the high rises and high towers,
Wall Street and the business districts,
the fashion epicenters and lifestyle revolutions,
the yellow taxis,
the friendly cops 👮‍♂️,
and the colorful heritage of New York.

The great pride of the people of America 🇺🇸 reminds me
that whether white collars or black power,
this city has a way of demanding equality,
