There are many ways to counteract way too many hours of sitting in a car while on tour, and a sure one to is when you get to go for a morning ride! Thanks @kentbkinney who got us up on a couple of mules and gave us a little tour of the flora and history along the Kings River! My trusty steed Catfish was quite a jaunty mule, but Caleb was on Edna - not so jaunty, and she kinda just did what she wanted, which was pretty much the opposite of what Caleb asked of her, but she came around in the end. @jackakinney I can see why you live there. So dang pretty! #livingthedream

This Thursday April 30th is the last day the best value Full Weekend + Orcas Center Shows tickets will be on sale! These tickets include both the Friday and Saturday evening concerts at the Orcas Center which would otherwise start at $35 per night.

IMPORTANT: all current and new Full Weekend + Orcas Center Shows ticket holders must also reserve Orcas Center seats by May 1st. Instructions for how to do so are emailed following ticket purchase.

Had three really fun shows with the Cali Cutups + @ethanlawton on drums. Played a set with Sea of Heartbreak. Saw so much great music! Danced my ass off. Laughed with so many pals. Wore the most sparkly outfit of my life. Hiked up the hill and had a snowball fight. Stayed up late playing music every night because it was too fun to go to bed. Ate a great amount of hot dogs. There’s a magical zone where sleep deprivation is nullified by the benefits of the joyous times. That’s where I like to be.

This little house used to be 15’ up in an elm tree in my parents’ yard. My dad designed and built it on weekends one summer when I was 7 as a playhouse for my sister and I. He bought all the lumber from a neighbor with a sawmill. I’m so amazed and impressed that he had this idea and took the time to build it. At some point as a young teenager, I asked my dad if we could finish enclosing the treehouse, so he taught me how to put siding on and helped put windows in. It occurred to me to move out there at some point shortly thereafter and it’s been my bedroom at my folks’ place since that time. Even though it was rustic (and freezing ass cold in the winter, even with a heater - eventually we insulated it thank God) it was my own private kingdom where I could be alone, make art or write, listen to music or the radio, and hear coyotes howling at night as I fell asleep or wake up to the birds singing in the branches. It swayed in the wind.

After over 30 years of supporting the treehouse, the elm tree slowly began to lean a little too much. Luckily my dear old pal @swedishfox happens to be a treehouse expert and hatched a genius plan to extract the treehouse from the tree. We built a platform and set it up high. It doesn’t sway in the wind anymore, and though I miss the tree (it’s still alive and well in my parents’ yard) I’m so grateful to preserve this special space that offered my younger self (and my present day self) autonomy and imagination and peace and quiet and a birds-eye view of the farm.

Now my niece and nephew can have the respite as I did. And deck is much bigger now, so morning coffee, afternoon coffee, happy hour, etc… it’s on. And star watching slumber parties.
