We are so excited to announce @monroviaboy will be playing at the Cantab on May 13!! 

Born in Mon Rovia, Liberia (inspiring his name), Mon Rovîa has been an upcoming and transcending music artist through his exploration of Afro-Appalachian folk, heavily influenced by his upbringing as a trans-racial adoptee and civil war refugee. Growing up in places such as Montana, Alabama, Florida, etc., he was exposed to folk music, which led him to center his music around his own experiences within that genre.

According to an interview with Atwood Magazine, “He writes songs of healing and human connection, singing from the heart with his soul on his sleeve.” This rising star has performed his own songs that have brought people together, opening up hard conversations about the politics of today’s world.

“I’m Mon, born in Mon Rovia, Liberia. My life can be summed up by being born into a civil war, escaping the life of a child soldier, rescued by the hands of missionaries. Spent a lot of my developmental years living in a variety of places with a number of life experiences. And then layered on top of all of this is the assimilation I felt being a transracially adopted refugee. My music in a nutshell is a culmination of these experiences blended with the empathy I feel for the experiences with others. The mission of my music is to heal with others - with every nation and tongue, in due time.”

The Family Stone is the only band officially authorized by the legendary Sly Stone to carry on the legacy of his iconic music. Led by Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee and founding member Jerry Martini, The Family Stone keeps the music of Sly and the Family Stone alive on stages around the world.

Fronted by the visionary Sly Stone, the band’s original lineup included his brother Freddie Stone (guitar), sister Rose Stone (keyboards), Jerry Martini (saxophone), Larry Graham (bass), Greg Errico (drums), and the late, great Cynthia Robinson (trumpet).

Today, The Family Stone remains true to its original mission: to uplift and unite. Still multi-racial and multi-gender, the band continues to inspire audiences of all ages to STAND for peace, equality, and everyday people.
