GILDED TIDES’ // ✨The final reveal✨
Commissioning an artwork with us is never a transaction; it is a journey we walk alongside our collectors from the very first conversation.
We take time to understand why they are inviting a textile art into their lives, what they want it to hold, and how it will live within their home.
It was an honour to create our largest commission to date, ‘GILDED TIDES’, for our collectors’ forever home. Our conversations began over two years ago during our Discovery Session, and since then, life has unfolded. The building of their home, the pregnancy and the arrival of Kassy’s second daughter. A new chapter was shared on both sides.
Most of our commissions travel overseas, and we rarely see them again in person. So experiencing the work in its intended setting felt like the final crescendo of the process.
As we entered the house, ‘GILDED TIDES’ made itself known as the key focal point, nestled amongst the most transient area of the residence. Beautifully installed on custom brass rod holders and gently spotlit, the weaving floats slightly off the wall, casting soft shadows that reveal its negative spaces and subtle movement. Beneath the weaving is a Macaubas Fantasy quartzite benchtop that mirrors the organic veining and slivers of colour within the fibres, creating a quiet dialogue between material and place. Not to mention the stunning, shiny plaster ceiling treatment casting dreamy reflections of the piece.
To witness ‘GILDED TIDES’ become part of daily life, and to see our collectors’ joy, is the most meaningful conclusion to our artmaking.
BIG love to our collectors - thank you for your trust, and for welcoming us into your home. Moments like this make the work deeply special.

Introducing ‘UNTETHERED’ handwoven by Lauren // SOLD
As I created this piece, I reflected on my own transformation and the duality of the postpartum experience, where autonomy dissolves into responsibility yet love expands beyond measure. After a year away from the loom, returning to weave again felt like an act of reconnection, a quiet reclaiming of space, rhythm, and self.
Woven reedless, the warp threads were free to move, shift, and breathe, much like I was learning to. Through this process, I searched for a sense of fluidity and intuition within the structure and care that defined my days.
Crafted from just two fibres, GOTS-certified Egyptian cotton and raw Fairtrade hemp, the piece unfolded organically, its rivers of thread forming patterns that felt both raw and ethereal. In their freedom, I found my own quiet awakening, a reminder that creation, like motherhood, can be both untethered and profoundly grounding.
View this piece in person at @sydneyroadgallery until 2 November.
Handwoven by Lauren Hernandez, 2025
730mm wide, 1230mm height, 45mm-70mm depth varying. Organic Egyptian cotton, Fairtade raw hemp and linen. Framed in Tasmanian Oak with Estapol finish.

‼️📣 Today is the FINAL day to experience our work in person at @sabbiagallery
Thank you to everyone who has visited the presentation and shared such generous feedback. It’s always refreshing to see our different formats of framed textiles, wall works and three-dimensional sculptural pieces experienced in a new light and setting.
It’s now been a week overseas visiting our motherland, The Philippines, and we’ve slowly settled into a gentler pace of sun, salt, clear blue skies and ocean air. It’s been a beautiful reminder of the warmth and spirit of the Filipino people, and the deep sense of resourcefulness, resilience and work ethic woven into everyday life here.
Pictured here are two frames from our ‘PAHIYAS’ collection, celebrating the thanksgiving harvest festival of our ancestral hometown of Lucban, Quezon. Titled ‘HABI HARVEST’ and ‘KIPING HALO’ , these soft textures, morning light hues and hints of sari-sari flair speak to the barangay spirit that fills the town during festival season.
Handwoven with love and intention, we see these #CTframes adding a unique touch to any space, whether hanging solo or as a duo.

DESTINATION PHILIPPINES ✈️🇵🇭
Starting today, our studio pauses as we step away for a family holiday, with operation resuming on May 26.
We’re returning to The Philippines, our motherland, for the first time in over a decade. It feels significant and deeply personal. We’ll be revisiting our ancestral hometown of Lucban, a place woven into our story, and we know it will be an emotional homecoming.
This time, we return not only as artists, but as parents, seeing and experiencing it all through a new lens. We’re curious about what this journey will awaken, what memories will resurface, and how this time of rest, reconnection and reflection may shape our practice moving forward.
Orders placed during this period will be carefully prepared and dispatched in the week commencing May 26, once we return to the studio.
We’ll have limited access to emails and will check in where we can. All messages will be responded to thoughtfully upon our return, with urgent enquiries prioritised where possible.
Thank you, as always, for your patience and support. We feel incredibly grateful to share this journey with you and look forward to returning to the studio feeling rested, grounded and inspired.

It’s always a joy to see our work placed within thoughtfully considered interiors by interior designers and art consultants. Experiencing our pieces in these beautifully resolved homes reveals how textiles and objects can enhance a space, bringing materiality, tone, and form into a cohesive design language.
We were delighted to have Pia Watson of @ss.studiosoleil feature our #CTframes and #CTcushions in her Rozelle project, recently showcased on The Design Files. This renovation of a classic worker’s cottage embraces the essence of modern Australian design, with a playful approach to colour and texture. Head to Studio Soleil’s profile to see more of Pia’s stunning work.

Kass and Lauren of @crossingthreads finish every Friday afternoon the same way. They sit down and answer a set of “check in” questions: what are the wins, what are the goals for next week, what’s blocking them, what have they learned & what needs following up & what’s coming up.
In a design studio or other business this is called a WIP (work in progress), I’ve seen various forms of this sort of check in in businesses- to help keep projects on track. Most artists I know don’t have anything like it! Since this chat- I have been talking to my art friends about how to incorporate something similar that might work for us - a way to celebrate the wins, sit with what didn’t work, and never lose track of what’s ahead.

Titled ‘UNDERTOW’, this handwoven sculptural tapestry explores the quiet tension between texture and restraint. A softened neutral palette is layered with sculptural accents, allowing the work to sit confidently within a space while revealing more the longer you live with it.
Measuring 1500mm (4.9 feet) wide with a 2300mm (7.5 feet) drop, ‘UNDERTOW’ is designed as an elevated focal point — equally at home in an entrance, living room or light-filled foyer.
If you’re considering a one-of-a-kind textile artwork to bring depth and intention to your interior, we’d love to hear from you. Commission enquiries can be submitted via the link in our bio.

“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” - James Clear, Atomic Habits
I think about this quote a lot when it comes to creative practice. Because most of us have no shortage of goals. We want to make better work, build something sustainable, stop feeling like we’re always catching up. The goals often aren’t the problem.
Kass and Lauren Hernandez of @crossingthreads are proof of what it looks like when the systems are actually in place. They track their time, filter every opportunity through a set of values and run a weekly check-in that wraps up on a Friday so they can hit Monday running. They’ve been building this , quietly, deliberately, for nearly ten years. None of it is precious or complicated. It’s a set of systems that help keep them in the studio making work.
I hope you enjoy it !

IN THE THICK OF IT 🧶💪🏽 // Deep in the studio, fully immersed in our current commission, a public commercial project destined for a high-traffic thoroughfare (details under wraps for now!)
With every commission, we look for ways to add a little extra, to push our practice and craft further. It’s especially meaningful when our clients join us on the journey and embrace that evolution alongside us.
Can you spot the “new” addition emerging here?
Lauren and Kass, together on the loom.

Titled ‘THE PASSAGE’, this multi-layered pair of soft sculptures emerged from our shared experience of entering motherhood together. Circular in form, they speak to the womb, return, and totality, but also to something more personal: a shifting understanding of ourselves as sisters becoming mothers.
Our relationship has always moved between closeness and distance, deeply connected yet constantly evolving. In this work, we hold that in-between space. The two fibrous forms exist as a pair, yet each can stand alone, reflecting how we remain linked while also becoming more fully ourselves. A figurative umbilical cord connects them, referencing shared maternal guardianship and anticipation of birth. This connection is unfixed and can be detached, allowing each form to be read as its own story.
Built from layered handwoven hemp, leather and tussah silk, the works echo the uterine wall and the physical and emotional transformations of pregnancy we are both moving through. Working without a reed or fixed warp became an important gesture, reflecting the uncertainty of this transition and shifting roles within our family as we prepare to meet the baby earthside.
Across the surface, fragments of a root system unfold like traces of lineage and memory. These roots speak to familial histories that continue to shape and support this new life. The process of change felt confronting and transformative, asking us to soften, surrender, and gently unweave and re-weave inherited patterns together.
In honouring Filipino matriarchal traditions, vulvic forms appear as symbols of pain, pleasure and life force. As first-generation Australians to immigrant Filipino parents, we also hold this work as a reflection on identity. Our ‘anak’ (child in Tagalog) becomes part of reconciling these dual cultures, and imagining something new between them.
‘THE PASSAGE’ traces our ongoing cycles of connection, separation, and becoming.
