Join us tonite (5/8) and Saturday (5/9), for a workshop performance of Artist-in-Residence Jason Wang’s new interactive play “AGAIN”!

“AGAIN”
A Workshop Performance
By Jason Wang
Directed by Jonathan Chang

May 8 @ 7:30pm
May 9 @ 11am
Speyer Hall @ University Settlement
184 Eldridge Street NYC 10002
Use #linkinbio for tickets and more information!

"AGAIN" is an experimental and interactive new play that uses our intimate inner dialogues to explore how the things we used to do transform us until and beyond the end of our lives. Because there are chickens in the backyard that require immediate assistance, bedroom trash must be airlifted, and there is no one left to walk the dog. Is purpose a thing you find once, or over and over again? AGAIN is being developed based on testimonies of seniors from University Settlement's senior centers & Wellness Together participants.

Pleased to have partnered with The New School College of Performing Arts Site Specific class and faculty member Irina Kruzhilina for “Archives in Motion”, a site-specific performance in the University Settlement gym. Performances are Friday, May 1, to Sunday, May 3. Free with RSVP using #linkinbio

Kick off #LEShistorymonth with us during University Settlement’s 140th anniversary year!

“Archives in Motion”
May 1 and 2 @ 8pm
May 3 @ 7:30pm
University Settlement Gym
184 Eldridge St. NYC 10002
Free with RSVP using #linkinbio

Please note that the gym is not ADA accessible. Audience will be asked to walk up multiple staircases as part of the performance.

“Archives in Motion” is a site-specific performance created in partnership with The New School College of Performing Arts Site Specific class and University Settlement and staged in the historic gymnasium—one of the first basketball courts in the United States.

Led by faculty member Irina Kruzhilina, the project brings together students from The New School to engage with the physical, historical, and social layers of the site. Drawing from materials found in the University Settlement archives, the performance emerges through a process of research, improvisation, and collective creation.

University Settlement partners with 40,000+ New Yorkers in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn every year to build on our collective strengths as we achieve healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. For nearly 140 years, we’ve fought poverty and systemic inequality by building highly effective social services in collaboration with our neighbors. Established in 1886 as the first Settlement House in the United States, we bring the values of that movement into the 21st century by meeting New Yorkers where they live, listening deeply to all perspectives, and creating space for responsive cooperation. Joining with our neighbors to make stable foundations where people of all ages can grow and pursue their dreams, we build community strength.

*Please note, the Friday evening showing is the final dress rehearsal/preview.

Thank-you to everyone who joined us last week for the work-in-progress showings of “Anyone There?” from Artist in Resident Jessica Bauman. Ways to discuss and ameliorate loneliness were investigated through monologues, song, and audience interaction. On Saturday, we were pleased to also welcome students from University Settlement’s EXCEL Program For Youth and Families, and we ended the event with a wonderful pizza feast courtesy of Two Boots Pizza East Village! Thanks @twobootspizza !

Stay tuned for information about the culmination showing of "Anyone There?" in June!
