In 1993, the Rotterdam Film Festival invited a number of artists to describe the importance of filmmaking. Zoë Lund responded with an original narrative piece, HOT TICKET, which she wrote, directed and shot in 16 mm over three days, during the festival, with a skeleton crew. Considered lost for many years, we recovered the original print and completed its restoration in May 2024.

Thirty two years later, the late Lund returns to Rotterdam, this time as director. HOT TICKET (2’) will screen at @iffr 2025 (European Premiere), which opens tomorrow.

Written and directed in three days on the occasion of the Rotterdam Film Festival in 1993, Hot Ticket is the only existing film by Zoë Lund. The premiere of its new restoration will follow a series of readings and performances of Lund’s early poetry and select scenes from her screenplays.

It will be paired with the screening of a 40-minute reel of original footage by the activist and filmmaker Edouard de Laurot, Lund’s partner and collaborator in the early 1980s. Edited by Lund in the context of an event devoted to de Laurot at the Cinémathèque française in Paris in 1997, it features production footage for films shot in the 1960s and 1970s but never completed. It has not been shown since.

Poems presents four unpublished poems by American writer and actress Zoë Lund (1962– 1999), written in the 1980s and transcribed by her on a desktop computer in 1986.

Translated into French by Stephanie LaCava and Manon Lutanie, and presented in a bilingual volume (French, English), the poems are introduced by LaCava, who retraces the genesis of these writings and examines the personality of their author.
