We are excited to announce the DG-debut of Sam Shepherd - aka @floatingpoints - with an extended track for synths and orchestra entitled Falling to Earth, recorded with the @sfballet Orchestra.

This single is an extended excerpt from the upcoming album Mere Mortals, a recording of the artist’s debut ballet score.

Inspired by the myth of Pandora, Mere Mortals was premiered in January 2024, directed by @rojotamara, with choreography by @aszurebarton and design and visuals by @hamill_industries. Shepherd played synths live with the @sfballet orchestra during the production’s successful first run, and was reunited with the orchestra to record the work for DG.

Back in San Francisco performing my ballet Mere Mortals with @sfballetorch from Friday for a week, 11 shows! Also, this movement from it is out next week…! @dgclassics @sfballet

Sam Shepherd aka @floatingpoints didn't just compose the score for Mere Mortals, he built a sonic world. Next week, he brings it to life in the Opera House, performing live alongside the SF Ballet Orchestra at every show. April 24–May 4.

New music out today!. Corner of my Eye. On Bandcamp and streamers. when @leotaylorgrooves @ideophone_music @kirkisssss and @zongamin_uk were touring the Elaenia LP with me we would rehearse and jam in my old studio. Out of those sessions came Kuiper (recorded at 7am!) and this one which I’ve always liked but never known what to do with… Leo took this video from the recording in my old studio in Hackney in 2017 and sent it to me. Was a nice session so I thought let’s share it! Hope u enjoy🤠 Sam

I was just looking through some pics from 2015 and found this harmonograph I built to make the artwork for the LP.. I turned my studio into a dark room, and used a fiber optic source controlled by beats from the buchla system onto photographic paper instead of a pen .. it worked..! There’s a remastered extended version of the LP out now 🥰

To mark the anniversary, there’s a remastered version of the vinyl, which features a track that didn’t make it to the album, Precursor + @dinkededition are releasing an exclusive vinyl which includes 7 harmonographs that I created with the help of @jasonevansfoto.
