@juliadosreis_viola's name has been steadily rising on the jazz scene. She's a skilled violist with an expressive tone, emotional depth and sincerity for days, so i absolutely love her playing - all those melodic, heartfelt lines that border on dissonance without completely breaking from the tonal centre. Doesnt' much matter whether she’s weaving intricate melodies or providing lush harmonic support, her presence on stage is always compelling. I’ve been following her journey over the years, and what sets Julia apart is her ability to blend classical sensibilities with jazz spontaneity in a totally convincing way. 

Julia's 2023 debut EP with her @jamstringcollective (Annalise Lam on violin and Miranda Lewis-Brown on cello) highlights her collaborative and innovative spirit. I saw them play at both @jazzlivese5 and @mu.ldn (with @rosie.turton ), and they were hugely impressive both times. Julia's upcoming set with multi-instrumentalist @_ddee is a perfect showcase for all that i love about her approach to making music. Excited to hear Julia play with @kwake.bass (perfect drummer for her!) @cleveland_watkiss and @oren__marshall too!  Not one not to miss. Ticket link in bio.

I have a huge amount of respect for Donna's musicality and playing. She drums with great sensitivity, is an uncomplicatedly mesmerising singer and will almost certainly floor me on yet another instrument I had no idea she could play.

Give Donna's What In The World?! EP released last year and you'll soon understand where all this is coming from.  Whether it's the solitary, simplicity of Opportunity; the deadly dance of detail that is Gardener Street or the polyrhythmic muscle of What is it?!, there is something ubiquitous about the sound and feel of Donna's music that to me says it will age better than most.
