Opening today: ‘Robert Mapplethorpe: Le forme della bellezza’ at Museo dell’Ara Pacis, Rome, on view from 29 May until 4 October 2026.⁠

Curated by Denis Curti, the exhibition brings together over 200 photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe, exploring beauty through formal precision, light and geometry. Spanning portraiture, self-portraiture, still life, flowers and the body, the presentation considers Mapplethorpe’s enduring dialogue with classical sculpture, architecture and the visual culture of Italy.⁠

The Rome presentation marks the final chapter of a major exhibition project, following earlier iterations in Venice and Milan.⁠

Opening the 2026 Contemporary Visual Arts season, the exhibition features new work reflecting on the materiality of Mount Stuart, its contents and living collection, while considering lineage, family histories and the context of the Isle of Bute.⁠

The exhibition opens on 30 May and coincides with Glasgow International.⁠
On Sunday 31 May at 10am, Veronica will join Sophie Crichton Stuart and Lewis Dalton Gilbert in conversation to discuss her work and the themes that inform the exhibition.⁠

Opening tomorrow: Veronica Ryan is included in ‘Ten Good Years’ at The Heong Gallery, Downing College, Cambridge, celebrating the gallery’s tenth anniversary.⁠

The exhibition pays homage to The Heong Gallery’s inaugural presentation, ‘Generation Painting 1955–65: British Art from the Collection of Sir Alan Bowness’, revisiting selected works by mid-twentieth-century artists.⁠
⁠
Alongside these historical works, ‘Ten Good Years’ introduces new works produced over the past decade by artists with connections to West Penwith, Cornwall, including Veronica Ryan, Lubaina Himid and Ro Robertson. ⁠

The exhibition will open on 28 May with a private view and continue until 11 October 2026.⁠

Opening soon: ‘Betty Parsons: An Expanded World’ at Hessel Museum of Art,​ New York, is the first major retrospective to examine Betty Parsons’ intertwined legacies as both a pioneering abstract artist and trailblazing gallerist who shaped the trajectory of twentieth-century American art.⁠
⁠
Organised by Kelly Taxter with artist Amy Sillman, the exhibition brings together approximately 100 works spanning painting, sculpture and works on paper, tracing Parsons’ evolution from academic painter to mature abstractionist over six decades. A newly commissioned, multi-channel film will also explore the largely unknown history of the Betty Parsons Gallery.⁠

On view from 27 June​–18 October 2026, the exhibition will be the artist’s largest and most comprehensive survey to date.⁠

Oxlade’s recurrent subjects — coffee pots, scissors, kitchen knives, paintbrushes, anglepoise lamps, easels and his muse, Wylie — formed the poetry of his everyday life, reflecting his belief in an art that is modest, ethically rooted and closely connected to the everyday.⁠

Presented in collaboration with the Galleria Borghese, Rome, the exhibition brings Mendieta into dialogue with artists including Titian, Caravaggio, Rodin, Brancusi and Bourgeois.⁠

This month, we are delighted to welcome Gina Kuschke to the Roberts Institute of Art Residency in Scotland. 

Since completing her MA in Painting at The Royal College of Art and BA in History of Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art, Gina Kuschke (b. Cape Town, South Africa) has developed a practice that gives form to a confluence of cultures, migratory patterns, and personal memory. Her paintings interrogate the relationship between place, space, and time, often dissolving the threshold between internal geography and external environment. 

Gina’s residency follows her inaugural solo exhibition, ‘A Place Beyond’ at Alison Jacques (London), earlier this year. 

Using the residency itself as a site of movement, and engaging with the varied Scottish landscape and its histories - from Caledonian forests and rivers to ancient monuments and rocks - Gina will develop a new body of work that considers how place imprints itself on the human experience, and how we, in turn, mark it back.
