In 1996, we started with a roll of Sellotape and an empty space.

Since then, we’ve stretched that roll of tape out, through numerous rehearsal rooms, shows, the West End, and as far the Met Opera in New York. We couldn’t have planned this – we’ve followed where the tape lead.

We’ve spent three decades not knowing where we will go next. And guess what? We still don’t know the answer - which is why we are still going! Our 30th year isn't just a look back at the archives, it’s a commitment to the ongoing, improbable conversation….

The Future Practice - We’re looking for 300 Improbable People

Our work – with improvisation at its heart – is co-created by the people who show up for it. We are looking for 300 of you to become Improbable People – to join our community of support. No tiers, no "gold memberships", just 300 of you holding the space with us, seeing where we will go next....

Inspired by a dream, this West End premiere of Philip Glass & Phelim McDermott's most personal collaboration yet marries ten meditations on life, death and Taoist wisdom with ten brand new pieces of music, presented with an ensemble of musicians and puppeteers.

Part-concert, part-performance, Tao of Glass is a storytelling tapestry, soundtracked by Glass’s mesmerising music and shot through with Improbable’s trademark theatricality.

At the touch of a button she commands the action, each scene brought to life by a skilled cast ready for whatever she asks of them. From bar room brawls to a bourbon biscuit cabaret - get ready, this is Rachel’s Perfect Show.

D&D Satellite: What are young artists going to do about theatre and the performing arts?

"Most young artists I know are pissed off. We are dismissed, forgotten in a pile of “an unexpectedly high amount of applications”, told we aren’t quite at the right standard despite not understanding where the bar has been set. Maybe it feels ironic to ask young artists what we are going to do about theatre and the performing arts, especially while the industry feels like it’s holding us at arm’s length. But maybe that’s why we need each other right now, to remember that we can find change in and with each other."

Improbable is recruiting. We are looking for Trustees to join the Improbable Board, with particular skills in Development/Fundraising and Producing (ideally commercial/large scale), to support Improbable on the next phase of our journey.

As a registered charity, Improbable is led by a group of dedicated and passionate ambassadors – our Board of Trustees, chaired by Erica Whyman – all dedicated to steering us towards a future in which we can achieve our mission in a sustainable and responsible way. The Board is a group of passionate and skillfulpeople from all walks of life who care deeply about the spirit, the reach and the sustainability of Improbable.

The Board of Trustees ensures that we have adequate resources to advance Improbable’s mission to make theatre, share and teach improvisation, hold space for authentic conversations, connect individuals to their sense of agency, grow communities and empower everyone to imagine and create a healthier and more equitable society.

We are looking for people who feel deeply about the work and ethos of Improbable. People who enjoy the unknown, relish risk and who want to push us to make a difference. We are looking for people who bring experience we couldn’t possibly get ourselves, who have the entrepreneurial spirit to challenge us, to excite us and to push us to do better and be better.

We care as much about finding people who are excited about the company, the work, and the spirit as we do about the experience and skills you bring.

People from diverse backgrounds, in every sense of the word, are encouraged to approach us. Unlikely, implausible, and improbable applicants are, by definition, extremely welcome.

This year we're trying something new: a small pot of money. We will kick it off with £500. Anyone can contribute if you want to and, over the two and a half days of D&D, we will decide - together- what happens to it.

So come along, join the discussions. D&D only exists because of the people in the room, and we'd really love you to be there.
