DISSECTION 1
I am my subject’s creator and her dissector. She sits beautifully and willingly for all to observe. I could not give and remove her life quickly enough. But oil painting is nothing if not a lesson in controlling one’s hunger. For the last two months, I have sat at my easel with a growing, growling starvation inside of me. Waiting days to for the paint of my subject’s intestines to dry while I selfishly yearned to add more, more, endlessly more substance to her guts has been agonizing. But she waited patiently for me. Her bliss is my salvation. She has become me. She is yours to observe but she was mine to kill first. Everyone sleeps with a sickness inside of them and artists are, of course, no exception. When you love something enough you will let it become you. Let it drown you.

I’ve been having a reocurring dream of my corpse laying cold on a metal table, my skin removed, all of my vulnerabilities twisted and displayed, to be known by many. I wake up in a cold sweat, but my subject is so graceful in her nakedness. So unconcerned. So tranquil. So natural, like this state is her destiny. She was born to be made into this. There is nothing more selfish than being an artist.
