“The home should be the treasure chest of living.” - Le Corbusier

Meet the next six architect-makers in Safe & Sound — our @nycxdesign exhibition with @leroystreetstudio exploring how safety, comfort, and belonging take shape through the domestic landscape:

▸ Lorenz Krisai (@lorenzkrisai), designing a chair that lends a kind of armor and protection for the body.

▸ Mara Lookabaugh (@mara_lookabaugh), hand-sculpting a light sconce in stoneware to explore domestic comfort as something embodied.

▸ Micael Duran (@_durandesigns.nyc_), introducing warmth and character into a common home fixture.

▸ Moniera Buck (@mhkbceramics), considering the tactility and intimacy of braiding hair and shaping ceramic forms.

▸ Nazanin Modares (@studiodeltap), sharing a warm glow held within a porcelain shell curled inward for refuge.

▸ Nikki Helou (@nikki.net_film), capturing spiritual and emotional comfort through film photography.

May 15 · Opening Reception · 6–9pm @allenstreetgallery · RSVP link in bio.

What makes a space feel safe? Maybe it’s the warm light in a dark corner, a familiar texture, or the objects we return to without thinking.

Meet the next six architect-makers in Safe & Sound — our @nycxdesign exhibition with @leroystreetstudio exploring how comfort, ritual, and belonging shape the feeling of home:

▸ Hanna Anonen (@hannaanonen), making modular furniture systems flexible, playful, and inviting.

▸ Haya Alnibari (@spectacle.motifs), reconstructing memories of 90s domestic life in Kuwait through patterned vignettes.

▸ Jeremy Son (@jeremyson_), illuminating dark corners with a stainless steel candle holder inspired by Dan Flavin.

▸ Kate Bedford (@bedfordworkshop), teaching us self-sufficiency with flat-pack ready-to-assemble plant stands.

▸ Katia Lyubavskaya (@magic.yes), playing with bubbles to celebrate the tiny, playful moments of self-care.

▸ Liyang Zhang (@liyangzhang_studio), offering a warm glow held by porcelain, a material carrying fragility and strength.

Sometimes “home” feels safe for reasons you can’t explain—until something there grounds you.

Meet the first six architect-makers in Safe & Sound, our @nycxdesign exhibition with @leroystreetstudio exploring how safety, comfort, and belonging show up in the things we live with:

▸ Akash Godbole (@amgodbole), recognizing home as characters we are living with.

▸ Braden Caldwell (@folk_poke), salvaging materials from project sites to become paintings that hold memory.

▸ Celine Salomon (@celine__salomon), giving us a moment alone with our own reflection, surrounded by gentle, unhurried forms.

▸ Che-Wei Wang (@charliewhiskeytango), offering us a traveling light companion for the uncertain walk down a dark hallway.

▸ Studio S II (@studio.s.ii), expressing comfort through protection, shelter, and memories of walking through a forest.

▸ Gabriela Gutierrez (@layeyo), reconstructing domestic fragments of ritual, nostalgia, and uprooting.

More to come! RSVP link in bio.

Safe & Sound — Opening Reception

Join us for the opening of Safe & Sound, a group exhibition exploring objects of care, designed by architect-makers.

In an era marked by political strain, housing uncertainty, and global instability, Safe & Sound asks what refuge looks like now—when the promise of home can feel fragile—and how art, design, and material choices can carry a sense of protection, comfort, and belonging.

Friday, May 15th from 6–9pm
Allen Street Gallery, 65 Allen Street

Featuring: Akash Godbole, Braden Caldwell, Celine Salomon, Che-Wei Wang, Gabriela Gutierrez, Han Seungmin, Hanna Anonen, Haya Alnibari, Jeremy Son, Kate Bedford, Katia Lyubavskaya, Liyang Zhang, Lorenz Krisai, Mara Lookabaugh, Micael Duran, Moniera Buck, Nazanin Modares, Nikki Helou, Randy Armas Moreno, Rohan Cherayil, Stephen Muir, Studio S II, Vanessa Tai, Yinqing Zhu

Presented by Slow Construct × @leroystreetstudio at @allenstreetgallery as part of @nycxdesign. Visual identity by @co.policy.

𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗘𝗫𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡: 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟭𝟵𝘁𝗵.

SAFE & SOUND — OPEN CALL

An exhibition by Slow Construct with @leroystreetstudio at @allenstreetgallery, as part of @nycxdesign.

We invite #architectmakers & designers trained in the built environment to submit work that explores what it means to feel safe at home - at a time marked by instability, "safety" becomes more than a basic need; it becomes a design question, a cultural question and a collective one.

🏡 What does it mean to feel truly at home today? What do we reach for when we need grounding? How can objects carry a sense of steadiness, refuge or belonging?

Apply via the link in bio or tag an architect to join!

Closing out our International Women’s Day series with @gabee.cho, founder of @greegohardware — an architectural designer bridging craft, culture and material tradition.

At Greego, Gabee brings handcrafted Korean brass hardware made by small-batch metal artisans to a global design audience, preserving a lineage of making that rarely leaves its place of origin.

"Each piece is shaped by hands whose artistry has been mastered over decades, guided by inherited methods rather than trends or machines. The craft carries more than function. It reflects patience, discipline and continuity. Every mark is a record of time spent making."

A fitting note to end this series on: design that carries meaning, and the people who choose to carry it forward.

Next up in our IWD series is Ali Chen, an architectural designer whose work spans visualization, brand storytelling and regenerative agriculture. She is currently building @sunnyland.farms, a microfarm in Taiwan exploring future-friendly farming and reconnecting people with plants.

"The time you spend pursuing your curiosities will never be wasted, even if it feels arbitrary at the time. Eventually everything comes back around to inform something you do in the future."
