They say NYC is all about the hustle. For me, hustle is about creating community and friendships.
I’d been wanting to mess around with CGI for a while — and when the @musicbed spec comp popped up, it was the perfect chance to show what we can do as creatives and filmmakers.
But why stop at a spec ad, when one of my great mates @declanbasile runs the best sock company in the game — @sweetfeet.nyc
Me, @emmakasarsky , and @mattyower decided to shoot two ads:
• One for the comp (had to be a fake brand: Sprint Union),
• And one for Sweetfeet.
We created a similar logo to Sweetfeet, shot two takes with our sock props, and swapped the sock logos in post with CGI, and I reckon we pulled it off! We landed a top 5 finalist spot in the comp and now get to drop this banger ad for Sweetfeet.
At the end of the day, it’s been a rollercoaster ride since moving to NYC, so it’s exciting to share something that has everything I love about it - amazing community and friendships. Proud of what we made and who we made it with.
Big thanks to the stellar cast and crew!

It’s not always the big jobs that are the best. Just Dennis, Leo & myself shooting 2 little Doco style stories over two weeks in my homeland of NZ.
A collection of frames that I enjoyed most from Jason’s story.
One of my favorite aspects about my job is frequently finding solutions for fresh challenges, sometimes there’s more creativity found there than what’s in the frame!
I didn’t want to compromise on the quality of what we were setting out to shoot, just because it was “run & gun” by nature. I looked into all sorts of expensive backpack rigs and settled on designing my own with the help of Sonny from @thefront118
I had power plates and transmitters mounted to the back of a military plate carrier. Up front I had the Alexa mini viewfinder mounted on a cinelock.. a MagSafe adapter to hold my phone open and unlocked on the ARRI companion app… a dovetail in the centre to quickly mount the camera to my chest for a little rest..and a cheeky quick release plate for my Fuji stills camera. Call it overkill, call it whatever you want, but it worked incredibly well, and I had so much fun engineering to solve the problem of a potentially heavy camera package to be out and about with day after day.

Pepsi Co. | Copper Kettle Commercial with @denis_scholsem Directing & @leopoletronnier AC
Invested some time during preproduction to develop a backpack rig style umbilical vest for my Alexa Mini. It was great to be able to follow the story unencumbered by the support typically necessary to achieve these frames. Unlocking the ability to run high grade AKS / components on the camera package whilst remaining just a few kilograms in-hand was a delightful shooting experience.
A well deserved thank you to @thefront118 & @sonnycostin for their unrelenting support in all of my projects but specifically this one.
@leopoletronnier for rising to the occasion, embodying a high end ‘slashie’ necessary for international shoots whilst also keeping every frame sharp.
@oli.coulthard & @spiritussystems for the plate carrier that served as the best platform for this innovation.
