Meet Ramsey Musk (@dadsdrinks), Chicago based bartender, graphic designer, and founder of Mama's Boy pop up (@mamasboybar). We caught up with Ramsey to learn more about how he got his start, what inspires, him, and how he is celebrating pride 🏳️‍🌈. ⁠

Q. How did you get your start in the industry?⁠
⁠
A. I grew up on Cape Cod, so during the summers my friends and I would all get jobs in town. Whether that was the local ice cream shop, the mom and pop Italian restaurant that I loved or in my friend's sandwich shop. I really grew into the beverage industry when I moved to Los Angeles and left my graduate school program and needed to pay my bills. I found myself drawn to the modern cocktail scene as it mixed science, creativity, storytelling and hospitality/bartending. Throughout my journey I won a few national competitions, lost a few and was named Best new Bartender in 2023, Starchef’s Rising Star and Vinepair’s Bartender of the Year Finalist in 2024. Kinda wild!⁠

Q. Where do you find inspiration? ⁠
⁠
A. Inspiration for me comes from, well, everywhere! I think lately though, nostalgia and my childhood/my mother has been the greatest inspiration. Especially for Mama's Boy (naturally). It has been cathartic and really special to delve back into my upbringing and use those memories in tandem with the techniques I have gained in my career to create these really special moments and cocktails that are transportive and nostalgic. Other than that, my friends and day to day life bring so much inspiration to me. Chefs, and artists, the list goes on and on. ⁠

Q. What does Pride mean to you? ⁠
⁠
A. Well, Pride is a protest. So, in that breath Pride means very little to me until my Trans brothers and sisters aren't the center of so much harmful and discriminatory legislation and they aren't constantly being attacked not only in legislation, but in the streets around this country. Pride is being loud and fighting for not only my rights, but for those that don't have the voice to do so. Protect the Dolls. ⁠
