The Spectacular Optical Corporation presents: Divine Hammer. We’re having our first feature film screening @facetschicago! We’re incredibly excited to get to host the Chicago premiere of the M Sister’s debut feature Divine Hammer! Synopsis: Two maladapted young women, both part of the same online gore enthusiast community, formulate a plan to meet in person with the intent that one will kill the other, film the killing, and sell the cameras that “watched” online to an unsuspecting customer in the hopes of spurring on a “new era of death”.

Tickets are in bio. We hope to see you March 18 at 7PM, stay after the screening for a pre-recorded film discussion with the M Sister’s moderated by @jdotmp4

You are invited to participate in the inaugural Spectacle Optical Corporation 48 hour MP4 challenge. S.O.C is dedicated to screening digital short films that are classified as “MP4 cinema.” Starting today, you can access this form to sign up. This festival’s timeline is a little bit different: it’s flexible for you and your collaborators’ schedules. You can sign up anytime between now and February 1st, but IMMEDIATELY AFTER clicking submit on the form, 48 HOURS STARTS TICKING. So be careful, choose your time wisely, and make sure to submit as an MP4 within 48 hours. If you make the deadline, we’ll screen your work, along with others, at Mouse Arts and Letters Club (555 W 31st St. Chicago, IL 60616) on February 8th! For information on how to sign up, what classifies as MP4 cinema, or for more contact info, check out this link. (https://app.youform.com/forms/ptqubm1k)

Rules:
Your picture must be completely shot and edited within 48 hours of filling out the sign up sheet. We ask that you honor the festival’s spirit and try to shoot an idea new for the festival.
Your picture must have some focus in digital aesthetics, either in its edit or with the camera you’re shooting with. It’s very cool that you shot on 8mm and cut it by hand, but it’s not for this fest.
Your picture cannot have a run time that is over 10 minutes (including credits)
Your picture cannot make use of Generative AI. Trust me, we’ll be able to tell.
Your picture must end with text that reads “An MP4 by *YOUR NAME HERE*”.

Since it’s safe to assume I won’t be able to finish another film before the year is over I’d like to share some stills from all the shorts I made this year! This year I exclusively made analog/lo-fi pictures. Below is a little bit of info on each film. The last slide is an image from my upcoming film Brain Rot, my most ambitious yet! All of these are available to watch on my vimeo, link in bio :)

Slides I-3
- I Shall Die Happily Among Rats: Filmed on mini DV and mini DVD. This was an exorcise in nonlinear and repetitious editing. The DV camera I used was the DCR-PC3 which is the same camera used to film The Celebration :)

Slides 4-6

-Rust & Stardust: Filmed on mini DV, mini DVD, and one shot on my iPhone. This was a film where I tried to create a story that spanned years through editing together miscellaneous footage. A film about how memories end up as code in the form of audio and video files. I got the title from a passage from Lolita. Additional camera work by @ripangelic.a

Slide 7-8

- Kasket 480 P: Co-directed with the amazing @sammysunsh1n3 . Filmed on mini DV, Hi-8, and 3DS. We wanted to experiment with what we could do with dithering footage from a small space.

Slide 9-10

- Esta Casa Era Un Castillo: Filmed on mini DV. Made this as a tribute film for my aunt who passed away earlier this year, and for my grandmother who passed years ago. It was my first time making a film in Mexico.

Slides 11-12

-Descansa, Amor: Filmed on mini DV and on my IPhone. A flicker film I made with the intention of obscuring the original images I filmed, by heavily editing footage from a DV, playing it back on a CRT and filming that on my IPhone.

Slide 13-15

-Invasion Of The Plastic Women: Made it out of a bunch of footage from anime, video games, and Tokusatsu shows I was watching as research for my upcoming film. With some additional DV footage I got of TVs. In a way it’s a thematic prologue to Brain Rot. Additional camera work by @coffeeforthemoon

Last Slide
-Brain Rot: A silent body horror filmed on mini DV. Produced by @sweetvoidcinema , this a picture about a lonely girl and her screens. This one isn’t coming out for a minute. Oh it’s also a tokusatsu :)

“Two Broken Children”

And now a passage from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

“He smiled understandingly-much more than understandingly. It was one of those smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced—or seemed to face—the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you, at your best, hoped to convey.”

“The sky is bright, the grass is green, the sky is blue, and you’re here.”

And now a passage from Ernest Hemmingway’s A Farewell to Arms

“Miss Barkley was quite tall. She wore what seemed to me be a nurse’s uniform, was blonde and had a tawny skin and gray eyes. I thought she was very beautiful. She was carrying a thin rattan stick like a toy riding-crop, bound in leather
‘It belonged to a boy who was killed last year.’
‘I’m awfully sorry’
‘He was a very nice boy. He was going to marry me and he was killed in Somme.’
‘It was a ghastly show.’
‘Were you there?’
‘No.’
‘I’ve heard about it,’ she said. ‘There’s not really any war of that sort down here. They sent me the little stick. His mother sent it to me. They returned his things.’
‘Had you been engaged long?’
‘Eight years. We grew up together.’
‘And why didn’t you marry?’
‘I don’t know,’ she said. ‘I was a fool not to. I could have given him that any anyway. But I thought it would be bad for him.’
‘I see’
‘Have you ever loved any one?’
‘No,’ I said.
We sat down on a bench and I looked at her.
‘You have beautiful hair,’ I said.
‘Do you like it?’
‘Very much.’
‘I was going to cut it all off when he died.’
‘No’
‘I wanted to do some hint for him. You see I didn’t care about the other thing and he could have had it all. He could have had anything he wanted if I would have known. I would have married him or anything. I know all about it now. But then he wanted to go to war and I didn’t know.’
I did not say anything.”

Instagram Stories geheim ansehen
