Like so many others - am feeling a mix of sad, angry, grateful in the days following the death of Justice Ginsburg.
I want to say thank you for the meaningful conversations I have had with mourners at this mural, for all the folks that have left messages or stood in silence looking up at her face, for literally anyone that has passed by this piece of art in the past year and in the past two days that has felt something from seeing it. I am understanding in real time the power of art, space, place - even more than I ever did before.
Here are some process pics from the making of this piece. Thank you again @flock_dc for the commission! What a journey it has been.
I do understand our justice department is not just. It works for some and not for all. It is part of a system built on oppression. I also understand it is the system we have in place, and people like RBG worked hard, tirelessly and relentlessly to change it for the better. As a woman, a person, an artist, I thank her for the work she has done and benefit daily from it. It’s time for her to Rest In Peace!! We got it from here...let’s do her justice.⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

“VESSELS: TO HOLD AND BE HELD” is my next solo showing @goetheinstitut of Washington. This show is mostly of work I created during my residencies in Veracruz, Mexico @ceibagrafica .
These works explore mind and body as containers, investigating what we collectively carry, choose to release and invisible expectations placed on some over others. I used materials found in the local market to print with - corn husks, sponges, netting etc as well as wood and paper made onsite.
I hope to see you next week! Eventbrite link on my bio ✨

Six days until #MayDay — Friday, May 1 — a day of No Work, No School, and No Shopping, when we’ll rise up for one another instead. Today we made the art that will accompany us as we take action together on this day. Meet us at 12 PM at the Washington Monument to March, rally, and then celebrate our solidarity together.
