Had a blast recording scores for 11 short films and a 3-episode series this year! Excited to share these score albums in 2026! 😁
Big thanks to all the amazing filmmakers for inspiring me and letting me be a part of your films - it’s been super fun going on these creative journeys with you!
Scoring sessions are always exciting to me since they’re the culmination of the composing process and because of the community. It’s great bringing music to life with so many incredible musicians, including some I’ve recorded with for years!
This year, 140+ musicians brought these scores to life!: 100+ (LA), 40 (@budapestscoring), 1 (Norway), & 1 (China). A big shoutout to every musician, recording engineer, assistant engineer, and booth reader for score taking the music to the next level with your artistry. (Musician credits start at Slide 14!)
Shoutout @alllywei for her amazing post design!

Composer bio featuring some of my favorite tracks!
Shoutout to Ben (@sotolikephoto) for taking the photo and Brady (@brady.berryhill_dp) for lighting it to capture this awesome headshot, and to Ally (@alllywei) for making this portfolio’s design look amazing!
I’m Eric, an LA-based film composer, USC film scoring alum, and current cohort member of the Find Your People Program by Issa Rae’s @colorcreative.
I harness my marching band and hip-hop roots with modern concert music and orchestration to create fresh sonic worlds, such as my Ancient Greek-inspired techno and Wild West hip hop scores.
I've scored 80+ film and media projects, including an upcoming Panavision-sponsored short film, Dead Man's Hand, a mid-length narrative film, Legacy, a 3-episode series, and an ad for @kizik directed by @mattshaffar for @sixtwentysixco filmed at Disney's Golden Oak Ranch.
I've also studio-recorded 60+ soundtracks in spaces like EastWest Studios (where The Godfather Theme was recorded) and with @budapestscoring. In 2025, 12 scores were brought to life by 140+ musicians.
I've been fortunate to have gotten to record my scores with incredible musicians like @luannehomzy (Violinist on Sinners) and @fletchtones (Vocalist on Wicked).
I've also had the privilege of working with recording engineer @mixerchristiannn, whose recordings include John Williams and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, on 2 of my scores, including recording the world’s 5th largest church organ at Crystal Cathedral.
Whether flying 30+ hours to conduct a 59-musician orchestra in Budapest or recording a drumline, each score is an exciting adventure!
In 2025, 12 short films I’ve scored screened at Beverly Hills, NFFTY, LA Shorts, and more and I also taught at @interlochenarts film scoring intensive last summer.
Let’s create something exciting and innovative together!
Featuring music from:
@legacy_tvseries (Ep. 3) - Dir. @jakebusn
@chowmeinholidayfilm - Dir. @lanhua_m
Old Goat - Dir. @teddysmovies
Chosen - Dir. @fiyin.gambo
Eyes - Dir. @brauliohernandez
@theaterkidfilm - Dir. @geromeisindahouse

Got to attend @thebhfilmfest here in LA at the TCL Chinese Theater and it was great seeing these films on the big screen, catching up with friends, and meeting many wonderful creatives!

Got to attend @thebhfilmfest here in LA at the TCL Chinese Theater and it was great seeing these films on the big screen, catching up with friends, and meeting many wonderful creatives!

Recording “Diner Robbery” from @chowmeinholidayfilm dir. by @lanhua_m!
Session Videography by @brandontran0 & @brandonlien_
Video Editing & Additional Footage by Me
Had a ton of fun scoring this sequence! The shouts leading in were originally on the downbeat but shifting it back to to beat 4 to match the visuals gave it more tension. Additionally, using crisp drum machine claps and a riser helped push into the title with the vocals powerfully sung by @jasna.gara! I also wanted to emphasize the adventurous tone and so I included lots of crunchy sounds like muted percussive guitar, drums, shakers, and staccato strings.

Wild West is one of my favorite genres to compose, so blending this sound with hip hop elements, for a modern adventure vibe, and Mongolian and Chinese instruments was super creatively fulfilling and exciting - Big shoutout Iris for bringing me on this score!
Iris mentioned that Mongolia is the Wild West of China, so we incorporated these Mongolian instrument parallels:
Morin Khuur for fiddle
Tovshuur and balalaika for banjo
Vietnamese jaw harp for a Western one
Writing for traditional Chinese instruments for a Beijing Shadow Puppet Opera animated opening sequence was a fun challenge, and shoutout Cory for helping me translate my sheet music to Chinese notation - it was a cool experience having it performed by virtuoso Chinese and Mongolian musicians!
Big thanks to the amazing music team and it was fun watching it screen at LA Shorts Fest last summer!

@officialsbiff premiere of The Other Roe, a documentary short by @wendy.eley.jackson!
Big thanks to Wendy for bringing me on this project - From scoring short films for your class back in undergrad at UCSB to being inspired by you throughout these years, it’s truly an honor to collaborate with you on this 😁
The film has animation beautifully drawn by @marcello.frisina and it was great watching the film alongside other compelling documentary shorts and reuniting with amazing people and collaborators!
This documentary highlights Margie Pitts Hames and her advocacy for reproductive rights in Doe v Bolton, the companion case to Roe v Wade, an important and relevant battle refought today.
The score has a bluegrass-inspired opening that later transitions into a minimalistic, modern sound featuring processed guitar, strings, electronics, and vinyl-emulated piano.

Ruach is a Jewish American folktale horror film by Derek Delson (@derekdelson) that follows a mystic rabbi who, investigating a rumor of demonic possession, joins a father and daughter for dinner.
Recorded at the USC School of Cinematic Arts
Performed By
Shofar: Michael Gropper
Vocals: Roy Gantz (@roy.gantz)
Violin: Peiwen Su (@peiwensu_)
Guitar: David Hernandez (@davidhernandezmusic)
Cello: Quenton Blache (@qblache)
Engineer: Miles Jensen (@mileymomusic)
About the Score
For this score, Derek and I chose to use Hebrew lyrics instead of the classic Latin lyrics of vocals in horror films to immerse us further in this world. This was done by bringing in Roy Gantz (@roy.gantz), who regularly sings religious texts in his temple, to sing the vocals, and he did an amazing job powerfully performing them! Most prominently, the Shema Prayer is sung in the opening of the film over an atmosphere of shofar textures, detuned strings, and processed vocals to signify a holy rabbi venturing into dark territory.
A unique instrument in this score is the shofar, an antelope horn used in traditional Jewish religious practices to signify spiritual awakening. For this, we brought on Michael Gropper, who’s a professional shofar player! The shofar is actually seen on screen as played by the rabbi to ward off the evil of the possessed, as well as incorporated into the score as an atmospheric texture.
The rest of the score consists of solo violin and guitar, mic’d very close to give a more folk sound, as well as aggressive cello when the possessed person reveals themself.
Album Art and Session Photos on Film by Derek Delson (@derekdelson)!

Recording “Honoring Family” from Misfortune Favors the Bold (@misfortunefilm2024), a Wild West drama short by Ethan Dwelley (@ethan_dwelley).
I’ve added some of the sheet music from the score that you can follow along!
This is my favorite track in the score since it’s the culmination of the film as Abigail finally finds and mourns her brother, which allowed me to write a melancholy piece that also embodies the vast landscape in the film.
To make it more sorrowful, I wrote a solo cello melody that soared above everyone in the orchestra, even the violins (which I wrote having lower notes), since higher notes on the cello to me evoke a more strained, expressive, poignant sound.

Misfortune Favors the Bold (@misfortunefilm2024) is a Wild West drama short by Ethan Dwelley (@ethan_dwelley), set in 1880s Montana. It follows Abigail, who, after losing her brother in a snowstorm as a child, embarks on an unexpected journey of redemption and adventure.
This was my first time scoring a full Wild West-style short film, and it was such a fun experience collabing with @ethan_dwelley and diving into this outdoorsy palette of orchestra, vocals, distorted harmonia and flute, drums, out-of-tune piano, and guitar! 🤠

About the Score
We start with a solo guitar piece performed by @pietroruscigno as the grandfather begins retelling the story. As Abigail’s brother is getting lost in a snowstorm, I stretch out and distort flute trills and harmonica to give it an ominous and ethereal sound.
As Abigail goes on a trek to hunt for someone wanted, I create a slow, brooding atmosphere with moody strings to build tension and anticipation. The low strings are layered with guitarrón (Mariachi bass guitar) to bring us further into this western. This breaks into an orchestra chase and standoff sequence.
My favorite track is “Honoring Family / End Credits” since it’s the culmination of the film as Abigail mourns her brother and it allowed me to write a more melancholy piece that also embodies the vast expanse of the mountainous/forest landscape. To make it more sorrowful, I wrote a solo cello melody that soared above everyone in the orchestra, even the violins, since higher notes on the cello to me evoke a more strained, expressive, poignant sound.

Tracks with String Orchestra Mixed by Michael Gossard (@lyon_michael_gossard)

I had the amazing opportunity to record the world’s 5th largest church organ and a 6-singer choir at Christ Cathedral (Crystal Cathedral) earlier in April for the score of Dead Man’s Hand, a nearly 40-minute Great Depression era mob drama by @houstonsasselli and @connermcfall!
Big thanks to @houstonsasselli for bringing me on this project and it was a fun time working with you both!
This collaboration started off back in 2023 during pre-production. Since then, we’ve developed and refined the score on and off. After getting the final cut last fall, we finished the score and recorded elements like solo cello with @qblache, opera vocals with @blake.stv, and string orchestra with @budapestscoring before this session.
After 3 months of coordinating with a team of incredible people, it was a surreal moment to arrive at the cathedral ready to record. Being enveloped by the sound of the organ and choir in such a beautiful space was a magical culmination of this nearly 2-year scoring journey!
Thanks so much to @davidballorgan, the Christ Cathedral Organist and Head of Music Ministry, for your support and for making this possible and to @laurenmccaulsoprano for helping contract the choir! Big shoutout as well to @mixerchristiannn for beautifully recording the organ and choir and to @josephfmohan for helping me test out the organ music at your church by playing it and giving me feedback!
The film is out now on YouTube - you can check it out with the link in my bio!
Featuring!:
Recording Engineer: @mixerchristiannn
Church Organist: @teag24_organmusic
Choir: Holly Roehl, @erigbyjones, Alyssa Cavero, Dan Babcock, @itisnotstephen, & Michael Turnblom
Stills from footage by @brandontran0 & @brandonlien_!

Had a blast writing the music for @sonatatheshortfilm (Dir. @j.e.yoo), @thelastsonata_film (Dir. @thomas88044), @chowmeinholidayfilm (Dir. @lanhua_m), and Crybaby (Dir. @hikimberly) that screened at @lashortsfest!
Big congrats to the filmmakers, it was great collaborating with you and thanks for bringing me on this journey!
Shoutout to the amazing musicians who’ve performed on these scores and took the soundtracks to the next level!
It was cool that for Sonata and The Last Sonata, we recorded some of the music beforehand, since the actors perform it on-screen. It was extra exciting seeing The Last Sonata and Crybaby on the big screen for the first time 😁
It was such a fun time catching up with the crews, watching awesome films, and meeting cool people!
