“PERELOM SOZNANIYA” - the new Beaunoise album is out today!!
Hear it on @bandcamp and various streaming platforms. Physical version(s) to follow in the coming weeks.
Artwork by Samplerman, whose work I have admired for years.
The title is drawn from Alexei Yurchak’s excellent book “Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More: The Last Soviet Generation”. Translating roughly to “breaking point of consciousness”, it refers to the experience of living through though the collapse of Soviet Socialism, and how that collapse was at once completely unexpected and completely unsurprising.
As we move through the expansion and collapse of our systems, I try to remember there is another experience waiting on the other side of our own ‘perelom soznaniya’.

Additional processing was accomplished with Eventide ( H3000, H969 ) and AMS digital devices. Everything was recorded at Tiny Telephone, Panoramic House, and my home.
"Almost Transparent Blue" was recorded at Tiny Telephone with an upright piano and monome norns. Experiments with extreme compression on a very close-mic'ed piano.
"Reading the Memory Forwards and Backwards" is a single improvised take using the Buchla Music Easel.
Perhaps a minor reference to my earlier album 'H3000', "Seneca Cliff" was written while using a working Eventide H969 harmonizer to diagnose a malfunctioning H969.
Kristina Dutton played violin and viola on "Solastalgia", an immense contribution to the looped string structures I had built.
"Years of Lead" is a single improvised take using the monome norns, string samples, granular synthesis.
The final, title track is all Prophet-5.

First @sugarcopperblue show at @websterhall tonight, as the 2026 reunion tour begins!!!
I had the honor of recording & mixing the new Sugar songs “House of Dead Memories” and “Long Live Love” at @tiny.telephone last summer. Every car I’ve owned has had a copy of “Copper Blue” in it ( Ryko version with the blue-green jewel case preferred, but the reissues sound great too ), so it was surreal and a little nerve-wracking to be tasked with capturing the the first new Sugar songs in 30 years! Being in the room with Bob, David & Malcom as they fell right back into things was exhilarating, and the sound of this band, in that space, through a Neve 8068 is just euphoric.
