It began with a question that doesn’t have a clean answer. Only layers, textures, and time. On the first night, we stepped into it anyway: speaking about process, about material, and the quiet, persistent force that pulls an idea into form.

Drawn from many sources—some visible, others harder to name—the work became a site of experimentation. Pushing, resisting, reworking what photography and material could be, until something new began to emerge. Not just images, but a language of surface, memory, and transformation. An evolving arm of the practice that didn’t exist before this.

This interview holds fragments of the unseen hours, the textures chosen with intention, the thoughts that live between each mark. What is shown is only ever part of it. The rest exists in feeling, in memory, in the spaces between words.

In Memory of Water. As if water could ever truly forget. It lingers, it carries, it reshapes; it remembers in ways we can’t always name. Maybe that’s what this work has been trying to do all along: hold onto something fluid, something fleeting, and let it move through us anyway.

Thank you for witnessing it, for listening, for stepping into this world with me.

The work continues, just in different forms, in different rooms, in all of us.

In Memory of Water is the inaugural exhibition at INTERVAL Gallery in Los Angeles, presenting new works by artist @danielhan .

Daniel Han’s practice explores the shifting relationship between image, memory, and material surface. Working across photography and experimental printing techniques, Han treats the photographic image less as a fixed document than as a living surface that changes with light, movement, and proximity.

In In Memory of Water, images are printed on unconventional materials such as velvet and reflective substrates, allowing the works to absorb and transform surrounding light. The result is a visual experience that resists permanence, where images appear to dissolve, re-emerge, and subtly alter depending on the viewer’s position.

Through this process, Han reflects on the fluid nature of perception and the way memory behaves less like an archive and more like a current—shifting, unstable, and continuously reshaped.

During Frieze week, I’m introducing Interval with its first exhibition —
In Memory of Water by Daniel Han.

This isn’t a traditional gallery launch.
No spectacle. No noise. Just the work, the space, and the conversations around it.

Daniel’s practice feels transportive — the materials shift with light and proximity, and the images don’t sit still. You have to slow down with them.

Hosted with Christina, this is our first step into building something that lives in the space between disciplines — between image and object, between artist and audience.
