Teaser for A Spot for Frog 🐸 A short film by @evanbode, coming soon! Follow @a.spot.for.frog for updates ✨
Locked out of the school art room, a creative non-binary teen named Frog grapples with anxiety as they seek a new place to eat lunch. Imagination blurs with reality in this hybrid work of live action and animation.
Two paintings, policed by a menacing curator, long to escape from the gallery’s walls. Excited to share this Teaser Trailer for my MFA thesis film, #OutOfFrame ✨🔭❤️🔥

Take a look behind the scenes at the process of animation behind “Prison and Time,” an award-winning Project Mend Production written / narrated by Marvin Wade @truespiritualactivist and animated by Evan Bode.
In the film, Marvin shares his message to young people while reflecting on his 25 years of incarceration and the positive change he achieved not because of prison, but in spite of its insidious harms working against him at every turn. Marvin advocates the befriending of time as a path toward hope and healing.
In its first few months on the festival circuit, Prison and Time is proud to be an official selection of:
•Justice Film Festival @justicefilmfestival (NYC)
•Wide Open Experimental Film Festival @woefilmfest (OKC)
•ATL Doc (Atlanta)
•New Jersey International Film Festival (NJ)
•FOLCS International Short Film Competition (NYC)
•MicroActs Artist Film Screening @microacts (U.K.)
• and an Audience Award Winner at Pebbles Underground Film & Video Art festival @pebblesunderground
You can watch “Prison and Time” online by visiting project-mend.net, or on Evan’s website at evanbode.net/project-mend.

Tomorrow in Montreal, Out of Frame has the honor of screening in @imagenationmtl —a major international queer film festival and the first of its kind in Canada, celebrating almost 40 years. OoF in the “Sapphic Scenes” shorts program and part of the Competition!
very surreal that my humble student short will be seen next to so many incredible films (for example, the animated short listed after it in the same program, “The Eating of an Orange”—which won a Jury Award at Sundance, will screen at Annecy, and just last week was shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination)!
I can’t be in Canada in person, if anyone sees Out of Frame at Image+Nation, I’d love to connect and know what you think! (it’s loggable on Letterboxd!)
endless thanks & congrats to the cast + crew of OoF including @jm.paps @zariagreight @sam.azgh DP doorim_kim & everyone else who helped bring it to life! 💛

for the past few months, i’ve been creating a 6-minute animated documentary in collaboration with the words & voice of brilliant writer Marvin Wade @truespiritualactivist, based on excerpts of his essay “Time and Prison: Are they Mutually Exclusive?” which was published in the recent issue of @mend_syracuse and is available to read online.
in the essay, Marvin reflects on his 25 years of incarceration and the positive transformation he achieved—not because of, but in *spite* of, the conditions of a prison system that tried to destroy his humanity and prevent his growth at every step of the way. through lived experience, Marvin offers insights for us all about cherishing, using, and befriending the time that exists around us all.
thank you to Patrick Berry for commissioning me for this Project Mend production, and to Marvin for trusting me as a collaborator with your words, voice, and story 🙏
the film “Prison and Time” is debuting publicly this Thursday at a free Project Mend event in Auburn, NY (with Marvin and I both in attendance!) but eventually it will be available online for anyone to see. i’m proud of this work and looking forward to sharing it!

a simple ten seconds about time, from an hour or so spent animating today (when focusing, i’m never sure how many minutes have passed) 🕥🕐🕜🕞
the ripping paper was not planned until it started happening naturally — a beautiful surprise, made possible only by working with physical material !
ultimately this brief moment will become integrated in a larger piece, commissioned by @mend_syracuse around a powerful personal essay on Time & Prison by Marvin Wade @truespiritualactivist . (I’ve been working on that film for a few months now and can’t wait for us to share once finished !)

July was an extremely intensive yet equally rewarding month of teaching, spent sharing the joy of cinematic arts & crafts with young filmmakers ✨
alongside @tevvon I had the privilege of co-teaching two consecutive 2-week summer film courses for high schoolers traveling to Syracuse from across the nation through @suprecollege , back to back & every day for a total of 4 weeks. I also led a week of the latest round of @teens_with_a_movie_camera , a wholly original & magical program for Syracuse youth, who this time went on a voyage to outer space
these past 5 weeks have felt in many ways like a culmination of all I’ve learned in my 5 years at Syracuse—a fitting chapter for my final month at the university before moving home to Colorado for now ✈️
looking back, not long ago, I struggled to imagine myself capable of being a teacher, and now I’ve been doing it every day, with a sense that it’s been positive & meaningful.
for this, I have a truly exceptional & inspiring team of TAs & friends & collaborators to thank! managing such a big & challengingprogram like this would not be possible without the support of a caring community working together 🙏
thank you to all of you, and to everyone I’ve been lucky enough to know & teach & learn from at Syracuse! I hope to stay in touch!

alongside @tevvon I had the privilege of co-teaching two consecutive 2-week summer film courses for high schoolers traveling to Syracuse from across the nation through @suprecollege , back to back & every day for a total of 4 weeks.
