We invite you to PHASE SHIFT, an evening of live generative environments. A story told in phases.
Drop in any time. Stay as long as you like.
Built in TouchDesigner. The community is warmly invited.
More info and tickets at link in bio >
ABOUT
Life moves in phases. An experimental narrative told through human-computer interaction. Computer vision, generative and performed audio visual. Human designed and controlled. Synchronized techno, dub and ambisonics.
An experiment in live generative environments, and an early look at a longer-term toolset Jarrett from
Derivative has been building for real-time AV performance.
UNDER THE HOOD, THE PIPELINE
TouchDesigner at the core, but this project has really been about stress-testing POPs — TouchDesigner’s new Point Operator family — alongside ML tooling we’ve been pushing past the experimental stage. Real-time generative visuals driven by computer vision, with human interaction in the loop throughout. Nothing is pre-rendered. The system was designed to be performed and steered live.
AUDIO
Running on a Dante network: a quad-channel main room and a new experimental ambisonics room for fully spatialized listening. Synchronized electronic music locked to TouchDesigner via some novel sync techniques we’ve been developing.
Why “phases”? The piece is loosely structured as a narrative arc — life in stages — but each stage is a different configuration of the ML, visual, and audio systems. The technical state of the rig is the storytelling.
This is a tuning night and a technical exercise as much as a show. Things will be weird in interesting ways. Come see what works, have a drink, and meet others from the community.

Join us on June 7th for hands-on experimentation, live demonstrations, and practical techniques for building responsive audiovisual systems in TouchDesigner. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to expand your workflow, this session is designed to give you tools you can immediately apply to your own projects.
This three-hour session is designed for beginner to intermediate users to explore real-time visual generation in TouchDesigner, focusing on different methods of audio and data integration. Building on Spectra Studio’s history of community engagement and technical education, this workshop moves from simple file-based triggers to POP visuals and MIDI devices.
Limited spots available — link in bio for registration and details.
PHOTON is our kinetic lighting installation, where light becomes a physical performer—choreographed in motion, shifting with rhythm, and responsive to its environment.
Built with custom robotics and designed as a flexible system, each configuration evolves with the space while retaining its distinctive presence.
In this iteration, PHOTON was installed in the main lot at @fluxfestival The arrangement and choreography were shaped by the site itself: a place that was once forest, now transformed into an open lot. Drawing from that layered history, the work reflects the landscape back onto itself, collapsing past and present into a single luminous moment.
Thanks to the team who put this together:
@breannabrowning@mach_tw3lve @jay.borgwardt @chinabay @moonharvey @instadontron @carriechen01
Special thanks to @matthewwachter and Jim Shawhan for welding.

We are excited to show our installation PHOTON as part of an incredible lineup @fluxfestival this Saturday, April 25, at BLUM Gallery LA.
Spectra Studio is a Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary collective that blends media art, computer science, and mechanical engineering to build multi-sensory experiences across installation, projection, sculpture, robotics, light, and sound.
Flux Festival: A snapshot of the global creative zeitgeist, across a full day of talks, sensory exhibits, and performances with artists and filmmakers experimenting at the very edge of what’s possible in moving image and sound.
What happens at the intersection of art, engineering, and the unknown? Spectra Studio has spent years finding out. The Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary collective blends media art, computer science, and mechanical engineering to build multi-sensory experiences across installation, projection, sculpture, robotics, light, and sound that ask how we relate to the physical, the digital, and everything in between.
Experience their immersive installation Photon at Flux Festival on Saturday, April 25.

2025 pushed Spectra Studio further than any year before. We took on our largest projects to date, expanded our ongoing work in interactive art, and brought our practice to new audiences across New York, Singapore, Berlin and Mexico City.
This year also marked our first mini-festival, Spectra Synthesis—a two-day gathering with artist talks, performances, and workshops. We also hosted audiovisual events and shows with partners. Building it all alongside our community was a highlight of our practice.
We’re grateful for every team member, collaborator, and friend who shaped this year with us. We are so thankful for our community.
Onward to 2026!
