The day has arrived! @urqurq amazing new album This Dismal Village is out now! The New Orleans based musician, best known as one half of Spllit and most recently the guitarist of W-9, returns to his solo project with an album that blends post-punk, prog, psych, and lo-fi power pop throughout a brilliant concept album recorded with it’s own unique tuning, captured in full to tape on a 4-track Portastudio. The songs are wonky yet brilliant, deeply conceptualized and fully immersive. Written and recorded over an ultra-focused month, there’s a continuity to the ever shifting album that stuns as the songs evolve together like a living breathing oil painting.

This album is a true gem, melodic yet discordant, intricate yet raw, lo-fi but immaculately composed. It’s a psychedelic voyage into a fictitious village that never feels too far from society’s unfortunate truths. With the warble of tape warmth, Urq layers detuned guitars and synths in a way that’s not only accessible, it’s inherently welcoming, a warm hug of a record that glows with its own unique brilliance. I could go on and on about it (and happily will if anyone asks) but truthfully, just give it a listen and you’ll witness the magic yourself.
