It is hard to watch your child enter the world weighing only 900 grams.
After complications during her pregnancy, Falmata gave birth prematurely and faced every parent’s fear: whether her baby would survive.
In the Central African Republic, EU-supported healthcare gave her newborn access to the lifesaving care both mother and child urgently needed.
Today, Falmata’s story is a reminder of how critical maternal and newborn care can be. Hear from her in our latest reel.

The humanitarian crisis in Mali is likely to worsen in 2026. But behind the alarming figures are people, families, and communities trying every day to rebuild their lives despite conflict, displacement, and hardship.
For victims of violence, access to clinical care, psychological support and legal support remains severely limited.
For those in need of life-saving assistance, EU-supported humanitarian partners provide clean water, nutrition, health, protection, shelter, and education services.
Aid workers often operate in hard-to-reach areas in central and northern Mali. Wherever they are, their mission remains the same: ‘Tto help those who need it most, regardless of their origin, religion or political affiliation, and without taking sides.’
And even in the most difficult circumstances, people continue to find moments of dignity, solidarity and hope – through care, learning, and the determination to keep moving forward.

Nutrition emergencies are on the rise in Nigeria, Cameroon and DR Congo.
Across these three countries, malnutrition levels are increasing due to conflict, displacement, food insecurity, inflation, disease and weak access to healthcare.
For Sauda, a young mother in Nigeria, this crisis became a fight for her daughter’s life. When little Rabi’atu fell sick and lost weight, Sauda feared she might not survive.
At a local health centre, she received ready-to-use therapeutic food. Week by week, she watched her daughter grow stronger.
‘Now I am happy,’ she says.
💛 With EU support, life-saving nutrition is reaching mothers like Sauda – giving their children a second chance to live.

Earlier this year, Malawi experienced the worst cholera outbreak in Southern Africa in recent years. In response, the EU funded the setup of health stations directly in affected villages to help people on the spot — and to contain the outbreak.
Cholera — a deadly bacterial disease — can spread rapidly during the rainy season, especially in areas with poor hygiene and where people live closely together.
Patricia, from a small village near the city of Blantyre, where the nearest hospital is a 9-kilometre walk away, became a Malawi Red Cross volunteer because, in her words: 'My passion is to help people.'
As part of her volunteering, Patricia teaches people sanitation practices such as washing hands, covering food and cooking meals thoroughly.
'A lot of people don’t know that cholera can be prevented with better hygiene,' she says.
Thanks to this quick EU-funded intervention, the outbreak was contained.

Three years after the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, the scars are still visible - but so is the strength of the communities rebuilding their lives.
From the first days of rescue to the long recovery process, the EU’s support has been rooted in solidarity.
Walking through Hatay today, signs of destruction remain, alongside signs of recovery: children playing, markets reopening, and communities moving forward together.
Life is not the same as before, but it is moving forward.
