‘Hotter Than The Sun’ is officially OUT THEREEEEE for all to see and hear and I really hope you like it!!!

I made this song with my ever loving guys @dead.matts and it took us a little minute to find the special sauce for this one...it always feels tougher for me to let my guard down with “happier” sounding songs like this. As usual though @dead.matts helped me find my voice within it and have fun with it and once it finally all came together through much trial and error...I would cruise back and forth from the studio listening to the demo at highest volume possible screaming “OKAY I CAN EMBODY THIS I SWEAR” haha It feels like performing a scrappy diy exorcism on my inner hater every time I sing it. Like I’m a butterfly/moth/insect bitch flapping my wings at will.

The video is equally as special to me ...working with Gwen in the directors chair...she just burrows into my brain and without even questioning it...knows exactly the perfect visual language to fit. Her freak + my freak + the freak of every person involved = my favourite freak shit ever.

Winnipeg-based artist Begonia, the stage name of Alexa Dirks, has been captivating audiences since launching her solo career in 2017 with the EP ‘Lady in Mind’, which featured the #1 CBC Radio single ‘Juniper.’ Her full-length albums ‘Fear’ (2019) and ‘Powder Blue’ (2023) earned her two Juno Award nominations and two Polaris Music Prize nominations. Begonia followed up with the EP ‘Open Swim’ (2024) which received remarkable response across streaming platforms and radio.
