Shortly before I tried out my new Passerelle from Atelier Rosenkantz—a beautiful and thoughtful gift from my cousin—my wife and I lost a stray cat we had been caring for suddenly and tragically. Over a period of several months, we fed him nearly every day, went on walks with him, played with him, and were in the process of figuring out the best way to foster him and potentially adopt him… which made it all the more devastating when he passed on.

I don’t know how, but it felt right to play something for him on the Passerelle.

The music I made with it here was different from everything else I’d been playing in tone and style and approach, pretty much in every way. It wasn’t planned. And I suppose that made for a fitting tribute.

Even though losing him was absolutely crushing, Rocco’s silly and loving, kind nature will never be forgotten.

I wanted to share this little voice memo recording here with you all in case any of you read this and see feral or stray cats in your neighborhoods. Please look after them if you are able, educate yourselves on TNR (Trap, Neuter/Spay, and Return), and consider adopting or volunteering with a foster program or shelter.
