A long-time favourite among Radio Soulwax devotees, Jack in the Box is a key reference within the Dewaele brothers’ universe, and set to be one of the most singular moments of our second edition.

Conceived as a love letter to club culture, the set dives into Chicago house and acid, revealing a less frequently explored side of the Belgian duo. Groove-led, physical, and made to be felt from the inside out.

Last night we played a short “Music Not To Dance To”set using only one turntable at the Saint-Martin Bookshop in Brussels to celebrate their 5th anniversary. We failed, people danced!

To commemorate this event they made a fanzine about ten books from their inventory that we matched with a record of our choice.

Bookshop owner Stéphane’s wrote:

‘It was in the mid-90s that I first heard the word mashup.

Soulwax/2manydjs had mixed together some unlikely tracks that, strangely enough, made me want to dance. They opened the door to electronic music for me, and I’ve loved them ever since. I dreamed of inviting them to the bookstore.

Thanks to Aurélie, David and Stephen stopped by one after-noon. I introduced them to Saint-Martin Bookshop, told them the story of the store, and we hung out upstairs among the books.
They love books — they know them well — there’s no doubt about that.

They spontaneously and generously offered to come play to celebrate the bookstore’s fifth anniversary. They selected about ten books and put together an “experimental” playlist.’

Does anyone else have a good friend who, whenever you meet up and they tell you about what they are working on, makes you feel so invested that it seems like you are already a part of that endeavour? For us, that friend is Bertrand @so_me_ma_sen and for many years our shared love of music and film (and many other aspects of life) was the impetus to find a project we could work together on. So even though from the outside it looks like the obvious choice to score a film about an ageing French DJ who is past his prime and desperately searching for relevance, would be two middle aged DJ’s from Belgium, it turns out we were unknowingly involved in BANGER before it even began.

Vincent Cassel is fantastic as Scorpex and in order to make the comedy work, we were tasked with making the musical aspect of this film believable, which was a fun and intense challenge.
Every single note of music coming out of every speaker, club system, studio, phone, car stereo was specifically made for its relevant scene and it’s out today on Netflix.

Special shoutout to Oliver Geerts @pale_oli and Pim Gombeer @pimgombeer who assisted us masterfully on this massive project.
