‘ Growing up between clashing worlds, I often felt like an outsider, like the antagonist in my own story—never fitting neatly into any label. I was inspired by the women like my great grandmother who for generations got these deq tattoos imbued with wishes, fortune, and protection. All these inherited stories and traditions simultaneously felt alien to me. Just as a tattoo is a ritualized act of deploying one’s own chosen identity, I am using this moment to question the significance of identity and heritage. I am not that I am not’ MAIA ABBAS
Maia came to me with the most special idea for a photoshoot. We met under a full Pisces moon during Virgo season to discuss ideas and life (With our own astrology complimenting the sky’s). Such a special meeting of minds, culture and connection. The night we photographed this was so healing. Joined by the creative souls of Dandy and Chloe we reminded ourselves the importance of play. With no clear precise vision or wrap time, overlapping roles, the perfect balance of peace and chaos. MAARTRICK
