At Queerty, we pride ourselves on being a queer media company by queer folks and for queer folks. But we know that’s not the case for everybody!

When discussing Heated Rivalry‘s popularity, one theme that kept coming up was the show’s happy ending. Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) and Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) didn’t spend the season’s waning moments beside each other in the hospital or crying their eyes out. Instead, they rode off into the sunset–literally.

The message is clear: gay people are sick of the tragic life story. That got us to thinking… there must be other gay stereotypes that people are tired of seeing! The gay best friend? The nerdy teen? The tormented closet case? The caricatures are endless!

Instead, these movies—both then and now—focus on the joy of trans travel. During a moment that’s made the idea of hitting the open road increasingly fraught for trans travelers, let’s take a glance at the films that did it well and left us with a serious case of wanderlust.

And as the latest taste of Confessions II, the song spells out exactly how the album plans to continue the work of its predecessor Confessions on a Dance Floor: by traveling back even further in time.

Gays, forget 2005 — Madonna is transporting us to the Detroit club in 1988, when the divos and divas alike were truly living the “Good Life.”
