Since the success of the bernette 79 Yaya Han Edition, @bernetteusa, @berninausa and I have been hard at work to create a machine focused on sewing, taking everything into account from versatility to reliability and accessibility. I loved wearing Vayne to @dreamhack! It’s not the best costume for working during a con (hot, two props, bodysuit not restroom friendly, gloves etc) but I HAD to bring this Champion to Dreamhack!

Made from scratch by me with some assistance on the props by @brian_b_boling, Vayne took over 300 hours of intense work. I got to use my @cosplayfabrics Navy Superpreme on the bodysuit which really elevated the whole look imo. I also used my distressed brown pleather for the straps and pouches and they are holding up perfectly even 5+ years later.

I remember agonizing over the fit and finish of this hunter suit - fighting with burgundy upholstery pleather, satin stitching superpreme, and making pleather bias binding… But the fact I was able to just put on the full suit after 5 years like no time has passed reinforced my top crafting mantra: Foundation and Fit. Make the effort to construct a piece properly so it can hold up for years to come.

I’m really grateful to @riotgames for the opportunity to create Vayne and I will try to bring her to more cons that I can drive to!

I went on the most amazing safari tour in South Africa, thanks to @comicconcapetown! Aquila Safari Park is 2.5 hrs outside of Cape Town and is an incredible vast animal reserve. The park is so big that it took another 2.5 hours to drive through it, and you can see from how BUMPY our truck ride was that we were truly in the wilderness! No paved roads, this place is not designed for humans. It is home to all these beautiful animals and we were merely humble visitors.

The highlight of the day was of course the lions! I got to go on a safari near Johannesburg several years ago and we only saw the shadow of a lion, far off in the distance. Never have I been this close to a lion outside of a zoo. It was incredible to see such a majestic animal relaxing in the sun.

But it also raises the question: If not friend, why friend shaped? 😫

Thank you again @comicconcapetown for this amazing core memory experience! The entire trip and comic con itself was perfect and I miss everyone in Africa!
