I was 13 on vacation on Venice blvd when my mom first told me she could see me living here.
I was 18 on Venice beach boardwalk with my best friend when I heard Robin Williams died by suicide.
I was 27 when my mom died the same way and I decided to try and come find remnants of us in the sand.

I found versions of her walking all over the boardwalk, being the woman I always wished she’d be.
Ella Loca is a love letter to the versions the world never let my mom and so many other women be.

Madonna and child 🤍 There really is no feeling as painful as losing your mother. Do you know the most common last word before death is “mom”? How sweet and human is it that even in our last moments we are seeking the comfort of the one who birthed us.

In 2023, a few months after my mother’s passing, I asked God to send me an idea that would help me get out of my current circumstances. I was living in New Mexico in a house where I’d had multiple traumatic experiences and it was painful to be there.

The veiled hat was inspired by how I wanted to hide from the world, I didn’t want to be seen, I didn’t want people to be worried about me, I just wanted to heal. The first version was the Madonna Hat and it represented the mourning of the earthly relationship my mother and I had.
