CBAD - MAL + The Nexus Project

We’re closing out the week at Piping Live! 2026 with a new set in a new space.

MAL are a Glasgow-based live electronic group blending clarsach-led traditional music with garage, house and jungle influences. Their debut album CBAD (Cuin a bhios an dannsa) brings together music written and performed live since forming in 2024.

The Nexus Project is an exploration of contemporary and ancient Highland Bagpipe music through original compositions and arrangements by Bede Patterson.

DJs Cain and baile/bail close out the night.

What happens when Highland bagpipes meet jazz saxophone, synthesisers, and a drummer? The Nexus Project.

Bede Patterson's ensemble draws a line between ancient and contemporary bagpipe music, inviting jazz, classical and traditional folk to meet in the middle. Their new album Glaisvair features guest musicians from Scotland, indigenous Australia and Persia, which tells you everything about the ambition of this project.
