WINDBOURNE SORCERY I - the next single from @volurdoom 's // @_cares upcoming album BREATHLESS SPIRIT is now streaming!!

From the band: "This is not the first time the tanbur has appeared on a Völur recording. Arif Mirbaghi (formerly of Protest The Hero) played tanbur with us on our EP Zwischen den Wäldern on the song “Fremdheit, Fremdheit.”

So while not a new sonic element in Völur - thisis Lucas’s first time playing it on an album. Lucas studied tanbur for three years with Reza Houshvar, an acclaimed setar and tanbur player from Tehran who lives in Canada.

There is an earnest attempt here to blend Western and Eastern approaches, so we have a through-composed harmonized melody with a Kurdish beat and Kurdish sounds. We also have a hallmark Völur chant section, this one is written in a long 24-beat cycle (10+7+7 or 3+2+2+3+3+2+2+3+2+2)."
