Growing up in a deeply religious household, Paris-based designer Maria Mayson channels personal history into a collection that reimagines the story of Genesis through fashion. Developed as part of her work at the University of Edinburgh, the project unfolds across six looks, each representing a day of creation, where texture, form, and movement gradually build a world of their own. Pleated layers, organza fused with metal fibers and gold, and bark-like surfaces evoke the natural landscapes that once offered refuge among the trees. The final look centers on Eve, exploring the tension between rebellion, wisdom, and judgment, while horned accessories critique religious dogma and the dehumanisation of “sinners.” Rooted in nature and femininity, the collection becomes a dialogue between imposed belief systems and personal identity, an ode to Mother Earth and the resilience of women.
