On March 26, the City of Austin will officially proclaim Ruben Esquivel Day.
As a 5th-generation Austinite, this city shaped me long before I ever painted my first wall. To be honored by the place that raised me and trusted me to tell its stories means everything to me.
Thank you to everyone who has supported my work, collaborated with me, and believed in the power of art to bring people together. This recognition belongs to our whole community.

Ruben Esquivel’s ‘The Bluff Remembers’
This piece is a tribute to land, memory, and the quiet work of preservation. Inspired by Red Bluff Nature Preserve and the people who fought to protect it, the composition centers my three uncles standing on the bluff, looking out over the landscape and city they helped preserve for future generations. Their presence is both personal and symbolic, representing community members who understood that protecting land is an act of care, responsibility, and love.Layered imagery of native plants, trees, wildlife, and sky creates depth and invites viewers to move through time as well as space. The shadow-box format reflects this layered history, allowing past, present, and future to exist simultaneously. Positioned between the natural preserve and the city beyond, the figures embody the balance between growth and conservation.Ultimately, this work honors those who protect places quietly and reminds us that landscapes like Red Bluff endure because people chose to stand for them.

The Bluff Remembers is a shadow box installation by Austin-based artist Ruben Esquivel, a fifth-generation Austinite of Latino and Indigenous descent. Esquivel’s work centers storytelling, cultural memory, and community-led conservation through layered, site-responsive public art. This piece is inspired by Red Bluff Nature Preserve and honors the quiet efforts of those who fought to protect the land, including the artist’s three uncles, who are represented standing on the bluff overlooking the preserve and the city beyond.
Using layered forms of native plants, trees, wildlife, and sky, the installation creates depth that reflects the
interconnectedness of past, present, and future. The shadow-box format invites viewers to pause and consider how landscapes hold memory and how preservation is an act of care passed from one generation to the next. The Bluff Remembers serves as both a personal tribute and a reminder that places endure because people choose to stand for them.

“El venado azul te espera.”
I was told this by a shaman in Mexico City, and it’s stayed with me ever since.
This mural is a tribute to the legend of the Blue Deer — the spirit guide said to appear to those seeking peyote on their spiritual journey. Surrounded by glowing orbs, mushrooms, and moths, the deer guide invites us to look inward, move slowly, and trust the path.

Did you get to see the “Protectors of Red Bluff” mural? This striking 15x60 ft mural on Bolm Rd. by @_esquivel pays tribute to his great uncles, Pete, Raymond, and Gilbert Rivera, who stood strong in protecting the Red Bluff land right here in East Austin. 🌿
Set against a backdrop of the area’s lush, tree-filled landscape, the mural weaves in Ganado-style patterns honoring the family’s Indigenous heritage. The monarch butterfly serves as a powerful symbol of migration, echoing the Rivera family’s legacy as migrant workers journeying north each year for work.
Uplifting and preserving the histories of East Austin’s minority communities is core to our mission. Sharing these stories fosters understanding across generations and backgrounds… because knowing where we come from shapes where we’re going.

🌙✨ Introducing Tríptico of Light, a collection of light boxes that bring the Coahuiltecan creation story to life—created for the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Seguin, in collaboration with Teatro de Juan Seguin and members of the Indigenous communities around Seguin.
This project was full of challenges. I’d never even used a laser machine before, but I stepped out of my comfort zone, learned new skills, and pushed through every obstacle to make this vision a reality. The journey really is about how you get there. Putting yourself in uncomfortable situations forces you to problem-solve, and through that struggle, growth happens. Sometimes, you create things you didn’t even know you could.
Each panel reflects that growth and resilience. It’s a story not only about creation but about transformation and strength—tied deeply to Seguin’s own landscape, from the flowing waters to the mighty pecan trees 🌳💧
Grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and honor these stories and this community. ✨
Special thanks to @tor.garcia17 and @bettynaa for all of their help getting this done.

If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
