These one hit me in a really personal way.

Hearing cumbia, currulao, bambuco and afro-colombian sounds being taken into dub territories feels both familiar and completely new at the same time

A project by @cerrero_ , founder of @lloronarecords and @discospacifico , reworking folkloric sounds through dub, echo, and experimentation. I also had the pleasure of meeting cerrero while I was in colombia; it was inspiring to hear about his work with communities and local heritage.
A beautiful reinterpretation of colombia’s caribbean and pacific regions.

This time, prior to Rankankan and the Cumbión, I sat down with @samzubz to talk about his love for Cali, Colombia, and his experience living there. We spoke about his documentary Miguelito, and his upcoming project focused on melómanos and record collectors, diving deeper into the culture and passion behind salsa collecting.

We also talked about his salsa night here in Sydney, Golden Age Salsa.

next wednesday we’re celebrating our first spin ‘round the sun alongside our friends at Papa Disquo !

what started as a small gathering has grown into a beautiful community of multicultural women connected through music, vinyl, curiosity and culture. over the past year we’ve shared sounds from all over the world, supported each other, started record collections, played first sets and created a space where women can explore music beyond the usual.

We’re back in Sydney, this time around Rancancan and the Cumbión, bringing the same idea of food and honest conversations, now with the artists behind these upcoming parties.

This time, I sat down with @carlos_arango_music , a multifaceted artist whose work moves across being a musician, producer, DJ, selector and sound engineer, all deeply connected through his relationship with music.

We spoke about his journey, his band @cumbiamuffin , his project Aracan, and Tropistories, a platform sharing mixes from DJs across the Sydney scene.
