Babeworld are an art collective based across Stoke-on-Trent and London. Babeworld’s work entangles popular-culture inspired film, installation and sound design to interrogate themes of political and societal identity, disability/access, neurodivergence, sex work and race. Babeworlds research explores what it means to make, participate in andspectate art as marginalised individuals. Babeworld are consistently motivated by the questions - how can we make work for the CEX and Tumblr generation who may not feel comfortable in a traditional gallery? And how can we get another little residency to play board games and TTRPGS?

Tonight at 7pm: Always Coming Home Final ACT @ormsideprojects. Anne Duffau @a___________________________z curates a night of live music and DJ sets with iconic electronic musicians and artists. Featuring @ifeoluwa_1234, jamesjordanjohnson, @hawazin.o, @utopian_realism, Shamica Ruddock, Solanaceae, @ctrl.z_z
This series is the development of recent research on the effect of visuals and sound in narrative. Each ACT from this ongoing investigation aims to introduce a live performance, a moving image and a live musical set. Part work-in-progress, part a newer body of work from the practitioners, these events are a site of experimentation.

Artist Focus: #shamicaruddock

🔥Thursday 23rd April (Tomorrow!) at @ormsideprojects Shamica Ruddock will play a special live set 🔥

Working across film, installation and live performance, Shamica Ruddock is an artist and a composer whose experiments in sound are informed by a core investment in sound as a site for knowledge production. Interested in dynamics of displacement, transferral, capture and legibility, through practice Shamica attempts to evaluate how these as processes contribute to the way we articulate the everyday. Other research interests extend to acoustics and the built environment, narrative and allegory, bass resonance and the linguistic function of drum language. Shamica has previously held residencies with Brussels experimental sound lab QO2, and Amant Foundation New York. Solo shows include Deciphering a Broken Syntax at South London Gallery (UK) and Palimpsests & Epithets held at Skēnē, Malmö (SE). Solo live presentations include Cafe OTO (UK), Hägerstensåsens medborgarhus (SE) and ArtHouse Jersey (UK). Shamica is currently a Sound and Music In Motion composer. Shamica has an ongoing sound based research project with artist Hannan Jones. Performances include Silent Green Future Soundscapes Festival (DE), Madeira Dig (PT), and Oscillation Festival (BE). They are currently Wysing Arts Centre Artist-in-Residence, supported by Forma and Knotenpunkt.

Ain Bailey is a composer, artist and DJ. She facilitates workshops exploring identity, memory and sound.Past exhibitions include ‘The Range’ at Eastside Projects, Birmingham; ‘RE:Respite’ at Transmission Gallery, Glasgow, Scotland, a solo show at Cubitt Gallery, London: ‘And We’ll Always Be A Disco In The Glow Of Love’ (2019). In 2020 Bailey and Ego Ahaiwe Sowinski created a composition and print entitled ‘Remember To Exhale’ for Studio Voltaire, London. Bailey was commissioned by Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge, to create the exhibition ‘Version’, and composed ‘Atlantic Railton’ for the ‘Listening To The City’ programme in the 2021 Serpentine Pavilion. For 2022, Bailey created the moving image/sound work ‘Untitled: Our Wedding) for the ‘Black Melancholia’ exhibition at CCS Bard, New York, USA and ‘Trioesque’ for Bruckenmusik 27 in Cologne, Germany. Bailey’s most recent commission was for FACT Liverpool’s ‘Resolution’ research project, for which she created the installation ‘Four’ (2024). She was the 2022-23 Cavendish Arts Science Fellow at Girton College, University of Cambridge. Bailey is a 2023 recipient of Awards For Artists from the Paul Hamllyn Foundation, and was shortlisted, together with Camden Arts Centre, for the Freelands Foundation Award. 10 April to 14 June 2026, Bailey presents a solo exhibition « The Jamaica Project » at Camden Arts Centre.

@hawazin.o will play a special live set on Thursday 23rd April at @ormsideprojects

Hawazin O is an American-born Saudi artist based in London, working across painting, installation, sound, and curatorial practice. She holds an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art and a BA in Painting from Camberwell College of Arts, and is currently completing a second MA in Curating at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Alongside her visual practice, her engagement with sound developed through a monthly radio show on Radio Flouka in 2021, which marked the beginning of her DJ practice. She has since been featured on platforms including Radio Alhara, Movement Radio, and Balamii Radio. Her performances include appearances with collectives and at events such as the Southbank Centre, Habibti Nation, and Sound of Noize.

Solanaceae (Johann Arens)
Johann Arens works with installation and collage to survey how shared infrastructures impact our communal life and shape civil behaviour. These site-related works respond to facets of the public domain; community centres, schools, hospitals, digital learning centres, internet cafes, local markets as well as art spaces and are often tailored to be platforms to celebrate and spark forms of communality. In this context he plays music under the handle Solanaceae and works since 2020 with researcher Dr. Hanna Baumann on the long-term food justice project Another Provision.
He has realised public art commissions with Arnolfini Bristol, Bold Tendencies, Jerwood Space London, Kettle’s Yard Cambridge and UCL Culture and amongst others exhibited at nGbK Berlin, Manifesta13 Marseille, Pump House Gallery London, IMMA Irish Museum of Modern Art Dublin, P/////AKT Amsterdam, IFFR Rotterdam and Neuer Aachener Kunstverein.

Ifeoluwa
Ifeoluwa aka Yewande Adeniran, is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, filmmaker, mentor and academic with a focus on fusing together global drum-heavy sonics, abstract left-field electronics and sad guitars. Their gigs abroad have taken them everywhere from Estonia to Berlin to sold-out headline shows across the UK. They currently hold radio residencies on Refuge Worldwide and Rinse France. As a writer their bylines are in VICE, The Wire, Resident Advisor and they were the guest editor for the Windrush 75 series for Mixmag. As a performer, they were part of sold out shows at the Barbican, and have performed at the V&A, Somerset House and Whitechapel Gallery. As well as running INTERVENTION, free DJ workshops for marginalised individuals across the U.K. As a filmmaker, their experimental documentaries have been shown at the Turner Gallery, Darkroom Festival, UNTHINKABLE Festival and unda festival. With their practice centering on visual anthropological experimentations of the “everyday” and “mundane”, with a love of the weird and wonderful quirks of both urban and rural Britain.
