Datasheet emitted by the machine «EiC-U» after recognizing the face of a passing visitor.
Imagine walking in a public space and any camera that captures your face instantly knows all relevant details about you – your name, address, age, interests, political views, relationship status and much more…
We may think of this image as something from the future.
But the project «Thank you for your data» shows that this scenario is not too far ahead. Via facial recognition the installation collects personal user data and prints it out as a receipt.
By visualizing an otherwise invisible process that we barely notice when using the internet, «EiC-U» gives the opportunity to overthink how we should handle data protection as society.

This time, the user data sheet was printed solely via face recognition and without any active user interaction (which explains the puzzled expressions of the visitors).

Zu Bits n Bolts:
Entdeckt am 4. und 5. März 2023, wie Robotik nicht nur wissenschaftlich, sondern auch kritisch und vor allem spielerisch interpretiert wird. Kreative Köpfe aus den Bereichen Mechatronik, Design, visuelle Kommunikation, Musik, Zirkus, Informatik, Chemie, Mathematik und Physik laden euch ein, die Vielseitigkeit der Robotik zu erkunden. Our project «Thank you for your data» will be exhibited at Bits n Bolts Robotival 4. – 5. March, 2023 in Zurich
The second part of our work series is an egg-shaped object called «anonymous». As a silent observer it collects digital information about the visitors and prints it out as personalised data-sheets.
By making our latent data traces visible «anonymous» raises the pressing question of who owns and is able to access our data and how personalised profiles will influence surveillance and marketing.
