Hoy honramos a nuestras madres, las que están y las que viven en nuestros recuerdos. ❤️

“Madre no llores…” como decía aquella canción de Mexicano junto a Ivy Queen, una frase que marcó a toda una generación y que todavía toca el alma porque refleja sacrificio, dolor, amor y esperanza.

Nuestras madres han sido refugio en medio de las tormentas, mujeres que aun con cansancio y heridas siguieron adelante por sus hijas e hijos. Algunas hoy podemos abrazarlas; otras viven en cada consejo, en cada recuerdo y en cada oración.

Que nunca olvidemos valorar ese amor inmenso que muchas veces dio todo, aun cuando no tenía nada. 🌹

There is a specific kind of irony in being a Social Worker trained in crisis intervention and having to use those exact skills to de-escalate a police officer during your own encounter.

I’m 10 months into a fight for accountability. Despite denials and “infeasibility,” I AM NOT BACKING DOWN. Recent reports regarding the mental capacity of certain officers only confirms what I saw with my own eyes that day.

For some, I might be annoying and a lot of people washed their hands and moved on but for me, it’s a mother’s plight. I look at my two Black sons and hear my 17 year old son’s stories of being harassed, and I know I can’t stop. The clock is ticking until December, but my resolve isn’t going anywhere. ✨

Maybe @nycmayor can look into this…
