Our city is facing rising costs while its most vulnerable are under attack. We need someone in City Hall who has our back. Someone with the experience to take on corporate landlords, reimagine public safety, and fast track approving affordable housing. Our current City Attorney is working against affordable housing and with ICE instead of using our resources to protect communities and bring charges against these vigilantes.

As an activist for over 25 years, I have taken on Chevron, border patrol vigilantes, and unethical landlords. As an immigrant raised in working class neighborhoods by a single mother, I have fought against the odds to get a seat at the table. Now, as City Attorney, I will fight for the people of Los Angeles.

My experience as a trial lawyer in the justice system is unparalleled in this campaign and critical to understanding the system in order to change it. This firsthand experience is why I want to end the criminalization of poverty and racial profiling. By not filing cases that show misconduct, not only are we upholding people’s constitutional rights to be free from unreasonable search and seizure, we are also minimizing the harm that plagues the millions of dollars in police liability cases that the City Attorney handles.

As a housing rights attorney, I worked with many renters and small businesses facing harassment, eviction, and poor conditions. I investigated slum housing for litigation and guided clients through a complex legal system. It is because of this experience that I want to expand the office’s work on protecting renters and holding landlords accountable for not making repairs.

I know how powerful this office is, and how if it was led by someone who had the experience and the courage to hold the powerful accountable and support the working class, it could transform our city.

The environmental disaster in Garden Grove is ongoing and it was entirely preventable if our environmental laws were enforced, and I know because when I battled Chevron, I dealt with the same agency, the Air Quality Management District or AQMD, that has not held Chevron accountable, and we saw that last year with the massive refinery explosion.

I will continue to stand up to big polluters like Chevron as City Attorney. Vote for the green candidate, vote for Aida Ashouri for LA City Attorney.

It was great hearing from Jamaal Bowman about the control of AIPAC and special interests in politics, and the importance of resisting their influence to stand up for human rights. I told him about my own grassroots campaign and how I was facing millions in Super PAC money and he told me “If you have a Super PAC, you’re not progressive.”

Primaries have historically low turnouts, but this is the exact moment we can challenge the establishment and vote for candidates powered by the people not super PACs.
