How does digital culture shape female identity and growing up online?

arebyte presents Soft Bodies, Cold Machines, a solo exhibition by artist Ambie Drew [@ambiedrew]

Through newly commissioned interactive installations and film, the artist interrogates what it means to grow up online in a world shaped by targeted advertising and AI-generated imagery, confronting the impossibility of disentangling oneself from our curated digital persona.

To create this new body of work, Ambie purchased and tested popular beauty gadgets promoted to her through social media ads. The artworks that emerge from this process reflect both the physical and psychological impact of living amongst a constant stream of images and consumption.

🎉 Opening Party: Thu 16 Apr 2026, 6.30pm
🎟️ Free RSVP via link in bio
🗓Exhibition 17 Apr -2 Aug | Wed - Sun, 12- 6pm
🗓 Exhibition Tour: 6 May 7pm | 20 June 3pm

where the girl is made and unmade ⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡

Soft Bodies, Cold Machines is a glitchy fever dream of Y2K nostalgia, beauty rituals, internet identity and digital melancholy. where bedroom culture, vanity and machine collapse into one unstable archive.

pink, frilly, satin excess
Vintage ephemera, cosmetic apparatus and posthuman bodies stitch together into a world that feels both comforting and unsettling.

the world unfolds across interactive installations, sculpture, text and film

free exhibition at arebyte digital art centre, a 2 minute walk from Camden Road tube station running until 2nd August

Ambie Drew (b. 1996) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Worcester. Her practice interrogates how digital consumerism and artificial intelligence shape the construction of gender and female identity online. Working across moving image, sculptural installation, and text, Ambie adopts a hyperfeminised alter ego to explore the consequences of living in a heavily mediated world where the physical and digital exist in constant flux. Incorporating obsolete technologies, her work reflects on how intimacy, memory, and reality are entangled with internet culture and machine-driven desire.

Alex Quicho is a theorist based in London. Her practice incorporates critical writing, performative lectures, and moving images to develop novel ways of understanding life within technological systems. She is the author of Girl Intelligence (2025, Aksioma) and Small Gods (2021, Zero Books).

Giuli Dal Lago is a London-based sound artist and performer who works at the intersection of sound and performance art. Giuli reclaims the body as a site of political struggle—a space for advocating gender identity and advancing queer celebration and liberation.

This event is part of the public programme for Soft Bodies, Cold Machines, a solo exhibition by Ambie Drew, exploring what it means to grow up online in a world shaped by targeted advertising and AI-generated imagery through interactive installations and film.

Introducing our next exhibiting artist Ambie Drew [@ambiedrew]

Ambie Drew (b. 1996) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Worcester. Her practice interrogates how digital consumerism and artificial intelligence shape the construction of gender and female identity online. Working across moving image, sculptural installation, and text, Ambie adopts a hyper-feminised alter ego to explore the consequences of living in a heavily mediated world where the physical and digital exist in constant flux. Incorporating obsolete technologies, her work reflects on how intimacy, memory, and reality are entangled with internet culture and machine-driven desire.

Ambie Drew’s upcoming solo show at arebyte Digital Art Centre, Soft Bodies Cold Machines presents a continuum of her previous work that interrogates the capitalist fetish for cuteness.

🎉 Opening Party: Thu 16 Apr 2026, 6.30pm

🏨 Huge Congratulations to Ambie Drew [@ambiedrew], the winner of Hotel Generation 2025, for her proposal ‘Soft Bodies, Cold Machines’

‘Soft Bodies, Cold Machines’ is a dreamy, haunting excavation of digital girlhood, posthuman desire, and the emotional ruins of early internet life. Merging sculpture, film, and interactive tech, the work explores how softness, cuteness, and glitch operate as acts of refusal within cold machine logics. Drawing on glitch feminism, Web 2.0 aesthetics, and personal archive, Ambie builds a world where intimacy is ritualised, fractured, and performed through kitsch, code, and memory. At once shrine and interface, this is a space to be seen, glitched, and held.

Her mentor on the project was Zaiba Jabbar [@zaibajabbar], founder of @hervisions

Hotel Generation is arebyte’s annual programme supporting the development of emerging digital artists from across the UK.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
