I recently submitted to a big photography contest that kind of consumed my mind for a couple months. I poured over my work from the past 15 years looking for the best representation of the different categories they offered.
Some of the images I chose not to submit are still some of my all time favorites. And now that the contest is closed I thought I might post a few that didn’t quite make the cut for one reason or another.
These images were taken in Welayer, a small village in Kurdistan near the Iranian border. These men were packing dirt onto their roofs for insulation.

Who knows where this fiery horse meets its end
The horns of the angels do herald the sun
That magical bell that has always rung
Since time immemorial rung through our soul
To remind us that each is part of the whole
