Tonight! Book release conversation and party for "Making Nonfiction Comics" by @mirkdrop& @elerimai, and "Do Aliens Speak Physics" by @andywarnercomics & Daniel Whiteson

At Silver Sprocket; Thursday, December 11 - doors at 6:30 PM (starts at 7pm sharp!); 1018 Valencia St, San Francisco

---
Making Nonfiction Comics

The definitive guide to writing, drawing, and publishing nonfiction comics from award-winning creators Shay Mirk and Eleri Harris

Making Nonfiction Comics is an accessible guide to nonfiction comics perfect for graphic novel readers, writers, and of course, aspiring comics artists. This new classic is a must-have for readers of Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics and Lynda Barry’s Making Comics.

Sarah Shay Mirk and Eleri Mai Harris, award-winning graphic journalists and longtime editors of the critically acclaimed graphic journalism site the Nib, have compiled the perfect field guide to graphic journalism while showcasing valuable skills and practices for creating nonfiction comics.

---
Do Aliens Speak Physics

A hilarious, mind-bending investigation into how much humans and aliens might have in common, scientifically speaking―from a best-selling cartoonist and acclaimed physicist.

When the long-awaited day dawns and the aliens finally arrive on Earth, they might eat us and destroy the planet―or, just maybe, they might share the secrets of the Universe with us.

When that time comes, will we be able to cross the communication barrier to beg for our lives? If the aliens do hold out those precious jewels of knowledge, will we even be able to grasp them?

If you want a book of seriously good nonfiction comics that speaks to the present moment in the Middle East even as it is unfolding, I recommend my friend Yazan al-Saadi’s new book “Lebanon is Burning,” which just came out. It’s a collection of comic journalism essays about the region, including stories about Syria (Yazan is Syrian-Canadian and grew up in Kuwait), Lebanon, Yemen and Palestine. “Lebanon is Burning” is a chronicle of how the bottled up energy of the 2011 Arab Uprisings only grew over the past decade. I edited many of these pieces when they appeared on The Nib, and Yazan honored me by asking for a blurb (my first!). Seeing them collected is a powerful thing. This is the best kind of work.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
