Dream Palace Cadaqués summons us into the imaginative realm of the great dreamer, Salvador Dalí. Long regarded as a portal for surrealism, Cadaqués has inspired generations of artists to dream alongside its extraordinary landscape infused with myth, mystery, and a touch of witchcraft.

Our fascination grew upon discovering how much of Dalí’s work can be understood as a rigorous pursuit of faith and divinity. His final public act, Proceso al Azar (“Chance on Trial ”), staged at the Dalí Theatre, brought together leading philosophers and scientists to debate determinism versus randomness. It was a poetic gesture at the intersection of art, science, and fate.

In the same spirit, Dream Palace Cadaqués will chart its dreamaturgy through chance. Participants will roll the dice through a constellation of creative processes, culminating in an exquisite corpse style performance under the blue moon on the 30 of May 2026.

Contributing Artists and Experts include Evan Root, Jussi Brightmore, Khan of Finland, Vasileios Basios, Ash K Halliburton, Wassim Alsindi and many more TBA!

Image by @timmurraybrowne, from Diffeomorphism (Submerged), screening at Deep Assignments 03 @apiarystudios 04-12-2024

‘Diffeomorphism is a half-decade long journey contemplating what the proto-perception of AI has to reveal about how intelligence emerges in the universe. Beginning in 2021 having overloaded a StyleGAN3 model with my whole lifetime’s catalogue of photos, I’ve been exploring its nature through its flaws and imperfections. Presented here is unfinished work-in-progress, an audio-visual meditation, an attempt to share something of this medium of emergent perception, flawed yet eerie, and a mirror through which we might catch a glimpse of one of the building blocks of our intelligent universe.’

Tim Murray-Browne’s computational art foregrounds the moving body, embodied thinking and the wild messy chaos of being human. He studied maths and computer science at Oxford and completed a PhD about interactive sound installations at Queen Mary University of London. In the 13 years since, he’s collaborated with dancers, sculptors, musicians and researchers to create interactive installations and performances. These include training AI models to interpret live dance into sound, installations inviting people to explore algorithmic worlds of light, image and sound through movement of their body, and an award-winning ensemble of bespoke musical instruments played exclusively by the audience (still touring after 12 years). He’s hustled work into the atriums (atria?) of Tate Modern, Barbican, the V&A, and into the galleries of Arbyte, the Centre for Contemporary Art Glasgow, and the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. He’s a slow thinker, he spends too much time in the studio and not enough time on social media.

At our upcoming Deep Assignments event @apiarystudios we are excited to be screening Eryk Salvaggio’s award-winning 35-minute video essay. The work contrasts computational processes of AI with the human metaphors used to describe them. An expressionistic blend of live performance, glitched AI-generated sound and video, archival and found footage, and digital compression artifacts. Human Movie is not about machines at all, but asserts a humanist counterfactual to comparisons between human thought and generative AI.

In this presentation, the film is presented as intended, with a live narration of the film by the artist followed by an open audience discussion.

Eryk Salvaggio has been a digital artist since discovering the world wide web as a teenager in the late 1990s. Working “with and against AI,” his practice is grounded in a humanist critique of AI. He has presented work and ideas at The Photographer’s Gallery and The Turing Institute in London, the Jeu de Paume and Centre Pompidou in Paris, at the New Museum in New York City, Unsound Festival (Krakow), South by Southwest, and at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and National Communications Museum in Melbourne.

Kate Carr - ‘A Field Guide To Phatasmic Birds’ -
Room 40,November 2023

“All the birds I never recorded, and some I did.

Re-imagined. Stretched and stuttering, glitching and morphing, swirling and sputtering.

Artifact and performance, digital bits all.

I imagine them swooping and calling in these scaffolds of sound I have made for them.

Gleaming amid technicolour jungles. Alive, unassailable; in a world we haven’t ruined.

In a field recording I never made.” - Kate Carr

We’re really over the moon to have Kate playing live with us this coming Thursday, (June 12th) for our first Deep Assignments event.

In her live work she is increasingly examining some of the ambiguities of field recording, pursuing a practice which blurs live foley work with field recording techniques. As such her instruments move from scientific rockers, massage guns, bird horns, frog rattles, watering cans to bug clickers in compositions which aim to trouble the associations of authenticity often attached to field recording, versus the sonic fictions of foley work.

Machine listening

Established in 2020 by artist-researchers Sean Dockray, James Parker, and Joel Stern, Machine Listening is a platform for collaborative research and artistic experimentation. The collective works across diverse media and modes of production, including writing, installation, curation, software, music, radio, pedagogy, and performance. Their work has been exhibited at galleries in Australia and Europe, including the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Cricoteka Tadeusz Kantor Museum, Galerie Nord, National Communication Museum, RMIT Design Hub, and MUMA. They have performed at Unsound Festival, Soft Centre, and Melbourne Recital Centre, among others.

Their upcoming performance at Apiary Studios, on June 12th, is part of a tour celebrating the release of Environments 12 on Belgian label @futura_resistenza . The event will feature a multichannel presentation of the Environments 12 work with an accompanying talk and discussion.

Environments 12

‘Is it difficult to reproduce the sounds of nature?’
Environments 12 is a new, speculative addition to the once-popular Environments series: a sequence of 11 records released between 1969 and 1979 that anticipated a mass-market in mood-altering nature recordings. The work was originally commissioned as a multi-channel audio installation, presenting a world in which the environment itself has been updated. In this world, the reproduction, synthesis and management of soundscapes has become ubiquitous and planetised. Loudspeakers and microphones are laced through the biosphere, all in the name of a cybernetic ecology. A collection of songs and fables recovered from the ruins of a future history.

Machine Listening Present Environments 12 -

A speculative sequel to the cult Environments records, this multi-channel audio work imagines a future where nature is mediated by AI and soundscapes are globally managed. Told through human and synthetic voices, it blends reef lullabies, zoo symphonies, and animal language models into a chorus of future folklore.
Machine Listening is a platform for artistic research on sound, AI, and surveillance, founded by Sean Dockray, James Parker, and Joel Stern.

Kate Carr – Live

Kate Carr explores the textures and technologies of field recording through movement, objects, and experimental techniques. Her work spans composition, performance, and installation, creating hybrid soundworlds that emphasise interaction and collectivity.
In live settings, she blurs the line between field recording and foley, using tools like massage guns, bird horns, and bug clickers to question notions of authenticity in sound.

Amanda Butterworth and Matt Spendlove - Live

Amanda Butterworth is a sound artist, composer and performer exploring sound, space and deep listening. As a composer she works across spatial sound technologies to create active listening experiences that transform the listener’s relationship to space.

Matt Spendlove creates immersive installations, audiovisual performances and sonic artefacts exploring spatial ambiguity, structural form, waveform materiality and the illusory contours of psychophysics. Through textured intricate production, his shows bring corporeal presence carved out with a minimalist’s scalpel.

Angela McArthur - Q&A

Angela McArthur is an academic & artist based at UCL whose works centre around the aesthetics and theorisation of spatial and environmental sound.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
