What a lovely night at the @musicproducersguild Awards. Kasia and I were there as guests of @fskaudio, surrounded by great friends and brilliant talent. Huge congratulations to @ascheps on Best Immersive Album, and to so many other friends including Ricky Damian.
Funny one, Spike and I actually went to the same school, something we only discovered years later when he mixed Vedera, a band I wrote and produced.
Wonderful evening celebrating the people behind the music.

PMC has taken sound to extraordinary extremes at the legendary Inchindown oil tanks in the Scottish Highlands, home to the longest recorded reverberation in any man-made structure.

When Grammy-winning mix and recording engineer Andrew Scheps joined a rare recording expedition inside the vast, decommissioned tanks, he brought PMC6 monitors to help capture the space’s remarkable 112-second reverb. Originally built by the Royal Navy in 1938, the six tanks are concealed within a hillside and offer a uniquely smooth, highly reflective acoustic environment.

Despite near-freezing temperatures, total darkness and challenging conditions underfoot, Scheps used a compact immersive setup to re-amp music, including material from his Tonequake Records label, and capture full-spectrum impulse responses. PMC6 delivered the power, clarity and accuracy required to perform reliably in such an extreme space.

The session forms part of Scheps’ ongoing exploration of highly reverberant environments, continuing to push the boundaries of sound recording.
