Crouton previously had very overgrown hooves and would need an adopter with a regular farrier to continue to get his feet back on track. Once his hooves are back to normal, WVHN's veterinarian believes there's no reason this guy couldn't be trained to drive or ridden by an appropriately sized child!

She knew she wanted a light trail riding horse, as her two current horses were companions only and not rideable, but as luck would have it, one horse's listing brought two incredible mares into her life.

10-year-old Sadie and 14-year-old Gracie found themselves at @februarystarsanctuary for different reasons, but quickly bonded with one another. The ASPCA provided funding for February Star to rehabilitate Sadie and list her as a light trail horse, and it was that listing that led Alyssa to fall in love. Once she found out Sadie and Gracie were bonded, it felt like fate to bring them both home. Since Alyssa lived 600 miles away from February Star, she was able to take advantage of our transport-to-adopter stipends to bring both girls home, which covers part of the hauling costs for adopters more than 250+ miles away.

Both Sadie and Gracie relied on each other during the transition and have truly settled into the routine of their new life! Alyssa is happy to be their new haven and hopes to enjoy many years of trail rides with both girls.

While dogs and cats may come to mind when you first think of the ASPCA, equines are truly at the heart of our founding 160 years ago. Even our seal immortalizes ASPCA founder, Henry Bergh, who witnessed a carriage horse being beaten and was determined to stop it. From creating the world's first ambulance for injured and sick horses in 1867 (two years before New York City even had ambulances for people), to ASPCA agents making sure working horses had fresh water, equine welfare has always been top of mind for the ASPCA.

Echoes of Bergh's initial compassion for equines are still alive today, especially through the @ASPCARightHorse initiative. This program elevates and advances the work of equine-adoption organizations nationwide, helping find homes for horses, donkeys and mules. This passion for supporting our hooved companions inspired #AdoptaHorse Month, a dedicated campaign in May that raises awareness and celebrates all things equine adoption.

Adoptable Greys the Boy truly is magnificent ✨🐴

Also known as Greyson, this long-legged Thoroughbred raced a total of 13 times, earning a whopping $131k+! Having since retired, this sweet and talented boy, currently with @canter_michigan is ready to excel in a new career. Greyson is a big, slow-gaited boy who could develop into an elegant dressage partner, but could truly go in any direction. He is a willing learner with a fantastic work ethic and has been making incredible, steady progress. Greyson lives outside 24/7 with a herd of other geldings and is easy to catch, friendly in the field and leads in and out of the pasture like a pro. His ground manners really are on another level!

Tango is a very handsome, pasture sound, non-riding companion looking for a forever family who understands managing horses who have sensitivities to grass, just like me and my big pony sister!

Tango has a great personality and has proven to be a very good boy, he leads, does well with light groundwork, ties, cross-ties, stands for the vet and farrier, and can be ponied from another horse!
