film photos from aug 2025. pt i. with family that came over to visit. though i did become a designated driver (working 12 hours a day LOL), it was fun. also a weird realisation that time passes so quickly... your parents become older... your elder sister is growing up and moving on in life. also crashed a Singapore national day celebration on a foreign land.
shot mostly with 200 fujifilm and 400 kodak.

31st October 2025 - Happy Halloween!
my first horror short "Wrapped With Love - 被愛包圍" was completed in 2018 during my time in NTU, ADM -Singapore. At that time,I had not realised I had some sick attachment (unhealthy fixation) on studying the relationship between food and people. There is something really fascinating in the act of... ingesting something. Moreover, trusting someone to cook something for you. anyway.

The short follows a young woman's journey in gaining independence when she finally gets her own apartment. However, her mother, unable to let go, relentlessly brings her the ultimate form of motherly love - food in this case - ngoh hiang. Seeing her mother’s overwhelming presence as a direct threat to her freedom, she attempts to establish strict boundaries, only to realise a mother’s love should clearly not be looked down upon…

Many thanks to my fantastic team aka coconut gang for making it possible and always having my back.

// post ii - When I talked with my language of cinematography professor - Hana, she referenced this movie - Little Shop of Horrors the moment I talked about the essence of the story. If you don't know the movie, it is a musical about a talking plant (that's totally understating it) but you get the picture.

This reference informed much of my decisions on set, to lean into the weird and quirky of the film and embrace it for all its strangeness.

This gave me room to explore funky framing I would normally shy away from in conventional dramas. Leaning into the comedy, much of the shots and style was born from the exaggerated, heightened world of Snow Dad.

Shot on the Panasonic Varicam with Sony Cine-alta Primes and Laowa 12mm.

writer: @nickthomastho
director: @riverzhanyin
producer: @charmonychhing
cinematographer: 👉👈🤚
editor: @yifan_lyu2

Starring @patrickallanlaffoon @rachelsarahlevy Leslie Jones and Michael William Schwartz.

1 / On the set of "SNOW DAD", this diabolical film changed my life. Written by said genius @nickthomastho and produced by @charmonychhing , this film was brought to life by director @riverzhanyin , editor @yifan_lyu2and pd @evanhtml l. When in talks, I still rememberedshowing the reference of "Nichijou" the episode where Mio loses it and said, this should be our film when it came to crazy ideas. lol.

The story follows a struggling snow cone business, owned by a loser named Bernie Junior attempts to find his sense of self-worth when his dead father comes alive in the form of their snowman mascot. He then realises that the snowman is evil and he must defeat the snowman, finding that self-love must come from the inside

Nonetheless, thank you for allowing me to lens this crazy, wild film. More stills to come.

EGGSECUTION | 250D 35mm

“”Eggsecution” was shot on Kodak 250D film stock, pushed one stop. Filmed in a small apartment with limited power and space, we had to get creative—balancing the need to expose the celluloid properly while carefully shaping the light in a room where it bounced all around. It was an incredibly challenging, yet exhilarating fun experience.” - Bao Le Cheok

This short is part of our ongoing series featuring the @americanfilminstitute Cinematography 2025 Visual Essays. Each essay is three minutes long and the AFI Fellows were challenged to create a narrative without dialogue. To watch, tap the link in bio.

To watch, tap the link in bio.

on the August 8th, 2025, I graduated from the Conservatory of American Film Institute with a Master's Degree in Cinematography. It was an emotional day as my family had flown all the way from the small, sunny island of Singapore to see me walk across the stage and receive the certification.

What started from a small, pink point and shoot camera my father gifted me with, has allowed me to look through a metal machine and choose how i see things, and now, share my perspective with so many others.

I always thought I knew how precious this opportunity is but it never really hit me so hard until I finally saw my family after 2 years. Their unyielding, quiet support has brought me here.

How lucky am I. I am so grateful to be in this position, where i can actively chose to be here. I can only be so thankful for every single person I've met along this journey, and more so grateful for any one who extended a helping hand to me in one way or another.

The amazing AFI Cohort of 2025 is also truly unmatched as I've learnt so much from all of you and I'm so happy to have known each and everyone of you!!!

Through the course of these two years, I've learnt so much about not only cinematography but also myself. and that perhaps is even more valuable as i navigate the next stage of life.

Alas, the rocky road awaits. But so does my stubborn tenacity to survive with cheap gas and cheap supermarket deals. haha. happy graduation 2025!

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
